Job description
We are looking for a Research Assistant to work in the Population Health and Policy research theme in the Health Protection Research Unit (HPRU) in Healthcare Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance (HCAI & AMR). The post holder will conduct research to estimate the burden of priority pathogens, such as Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CPE), in different health sectors and patient populations. This involves a systematic literature review and meta-analysis, and data analysis using data from national AMR surveillance systems and routine health records from multiple NHS providers.
Duties and responsibilities
- To identify and synthesize evidence in the burden of priority pathogens in multiple health sectors, including Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CPE);
- To characterise risk factors of AMR acquisition in different populations;
- To curate of data from multiple sources, including national AMR surveillance hubs and dashboards, published literature, manage data, and ensure the validity and reliability of data;
- To analyse primary and secondary data to estimate carriage of ESBL and CPE in different sectors and populations and detect any spatial-temporal trends;
- To assist with the writing of reports and manuscripts, and present findings to colleagues
Essential requirements
- A first / master’s degree (or equivalent) in biostatistics, epidemiology, bioinformatics, or infectious diseases
- Experience of quantitative data analysis, literature review (preferably with meta-analysis), and academic writing for publication
- Knowledge of AMR
- Knowledge of basic research methods and statistical procedures, and ability to analyse data and perform basic descriptive and statistical analysis using at least one of the following packages: Excel, SPSS, STATA, R
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to organise own work with minimal supervision, and work in response to deadlines.
