The Role:
We are currently looking for a Research and Development Assistant to work within our new ReUSE group within the engineering team at our Innovation Hub in Kettering. ReUSE, a registered trademark, is the term used to cover a series of patented materials and processes that deliver high levels of sustainable, recyclable and reusable electronics. Today over one billion tonnes of electronics enters ewaste every year globally. By applying ReUSE principles and materials to just a fraction of 1% of this would facilitate over 2 billion tonnes of CO2e being saved annually.
Ideally suited to a physics, material sciences, or electronics graduate, the role will focus on ecological materials and process developments in order to make a real and global impact in delivering sustainable electronics methods of assembly and manufacture.
Skills and experience
· Organised and structured – Capable of being able to design and run experiments within an organised structure for optimum efficiency in a tidy/safe manner.
· Understanding of the scientific method – To understand how one experiment’s conclusion leads to the next hypothesis and the importance of controlling variables with rigour.
· Logical – Able to draw conclusions from the data and challenge that data.
· Ability to think outside the box/creative problem solver – Help to think up new ways of approaching experiments, new equipment, processes etc.
· Practical/hands on – Able to set up equipment and execute the experiments.
· Hands on approach – Ability to learn and use new equipment both automated and manual
· Rudimentary knowledge of physics/chemistry/engineering/electronics - Needed to understand what is happening within the experiment.
· An interest in how things work – Fundamental to be naturally curious, interested and even derive pleasure from finding things out.
· Good numeracy and working knowledge of Word/Excel and PCs in general

- Basic salary £20-25K dep. on experience.
