Salary range: £56,175 - £68,250 per annum dependent on experience

CGD Europe, in London seeks a full-time Senior Research Analyst for its Global Health Policy programme, to work on a 12-month project aimed to understand the economic burden of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), forecasting these until 2050. This research is being undertaken as part of a research consortium of research an international organisation, with a goal of providing governments with better estimates of the future health and economic burden of AMR, before the UN’s high-level meeting on the topic in September 2024. CGD/E will lead on estimating and understanding the global economic impact of antimicrobial resistance in human health, building from forecasts of the health burden of resistance generated by a partner organisation.
As part of this, CGD/E will be working with a range of experts, and use expert elicitation to understand the possible relationship between the burden of AMR and the economy, such as how a rise in infection or mortality might impact the labour force. These will then be feedback into a Computer General Equilibrium(CGE) model, to estimate the macro-economic impact that a rise in resistance could have on the global economy.
The successful candidate will be a knowledgeable macro-economic modeller, able to use their expertise to find innovative ways of estimating economic changes, in complex areas with large amount of uncertainty. They should be able to lead on the technical work, whilst also communicating assumptions and modelling approaches with a non-technical audience.
General Responsibilities:
- Lead technical macro-economic modelling, on how AMR could impact the global economy.
- Work with experts to take information and projections related to AMR and adapt economic models to reflect how changes caused by resistance will impact the economy
- Learn about antimicrobial resistance, and how it links to health systems, tourism, travel and trade.
- Contribute to the writing of research and policy papers, in collaboration with other senior colleagues
- Perform duties requiring independent judgment and analysis related to data gathering and analysis, and writing reports and blog posts
- Work with the project lead, director of health and junior research staff to progress the project.
- Building working relationships with key partners, including economists, epidemiologists, clinicians, policy makers and other key stakeholders.
- Represent CGDE through participation in conferences, private meetings, and other public events
- Performs other duties as assigned
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:
- Master’s degree in economics
- Highly experienced working with CGE models, ideally using the Global Trade Analysis Project’s model (GTAP).
- An experienced data modeller, used to working with software such as python or R.
- Competent in working in complex multi-stakeholder environments.
- Proven ability to be a team player and to successfully manage multiple and changing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Experience communicating technical information to a non-technical audience
- Confidence, can-do attitude, intellectual curiosity and outstanding organization and time management skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
- Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office (specifically MS Excel)
- Experience conducting high quality, economic research
- Good humour and collegiality are essential.
