About the role:

Horsham District Council are looking for a Registration and Validation Officer to contribute to the delivery of an efficient and effective building control service for Horsham District Council and Crawley Borough Council, known as Sussex Building Control, including processing applications, validating and matters allocated by the Team Leader, enabling the delivery of quality developments in line with legislation, industry performance guidelines and internal targets.

As Registration and Validation Officer you will be carrying out a wide variety of administrative tasks for the Building Control team, such as registering building control applications, data entry, raising purchase order and invoices for the department and carrying out other duties including running weekly reports on applications received, dealing with general enquiries both on the telephone and by email and liaising with our surveyors’ external partners. You will provide technical advice and assistance to members of the public and other in-house Council departments on matters of Building Control charges, applications and Land Charge searches through all mediums as well as undertaking various administration tasks in connection with Competent Persons, Radon Monitoring, Sewer checks and consultations with other internal departments and statutory bodies to ensure timely liaison and appropriate actions.

Full training will be provided as well as the opportunity to complete the LABC Level 3 in Technical Support.

About you:

To succeed as Registration and Validation Officer, you will be educated to GCSE Grade C or above in Maths and English Language, or equivalent.

You will be experienced in administration and clerical procedures including dealing with telephone enquiries and have the ability to deal effectively with difficult situations or customers. You will have knowledge and experience of databases, document management and finance processes. You will have the ability to manage your own workload and prioritise tasks, using your initiative to find solutions to problems identified.

Experience of building control/planning in the construction industry is desirable but not essential.
