Richmond Court Nursing Home
Richmond Court Nursing Home, a 40 bedded residential home is looking for a Staff Nurse to join their team. The ideal candidate will be fully flexible to work 36 hours per week according to the Rota. The ideal candidate must hold a valid NMC pin.
Duties to include:
Aim of Job:
- To create and maintain with the caring team an environment in which all residents receive a high standard of care.
- To participate in the setting and maintenance of good nursing standards of care and practice, in consolation with other nursing colleagues.
- To be involved in initiating and implementing new ideas to improve care.
Role Requirements:
- Be familiar with the act in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct as issued by the NMC for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting.
General Responsibilities
- Ensure that all policies are implemented.
- Ensure control of supplies, and that these are used effectively and economically.
- Ensure that all equipment and furnishings, etc. are maintained in working order, reporting any malfunctions or risk factors.
- Advise on implications and introduction of new equipment.
- Take all possible steps to safeguard the welfare and safety of residents, staff, and visitors, and be aware of the Health & Safety at Work regulations.
- Keep the manager informed of any significant variation from normal routine and investigate and report on any mishaps or accidents in accordance with the policy.
- Record complaints from residents, relatives, and others, keeping the manager informed.
- Keep senior staff and management informed of any relevant change or information regarding the resident’s well being.
- Participate in relevant meetings as required.
- Undertake non-duties when necessary in the interest of patient care.
- Initiate and be involved with social activities for the resident’s physical, social and psychological wellbeing.
- Attend fire lectures; comply with instructions as policy, reinforcing precautions and procedures for staff and residents.
- Help to ensure that serving of food is of the highest standard. Provide adequate nutrition and special diets, when required, are catered for, and understood.
- To participate in the training of care assistants and other learners to promote the wellbeing of the service user.
- To ensure effective and safe deployment of person power and resources in accordance with the service user needs, company policy.
- Adhere to Infection Control Policy.
Professionals Responsibilities
- Recognise situations that may be detrimental to the health and well being of the individual.
- Carry out those activities involved when conducting the comprehensive assessment of a resident’s nursing requirements.
- Recognise the significance of the observations made and use these to develop an initial nursing assessment, incorporating moving and manual handling, pressure area assessment.
- Devise plans of nursing care based on assessments with the co-operation of the resident and the family to the extent that this is possible, taking into account the medical prescriptions.
- Implement planned programs of nursing care and where appropriate teach and co-ordinate other members of the caring team who may be responsible for implementing specific aspects of the nursing and non-nursing care.
- Review the effectiveness of the care provided and where appropriate, initiate any action that may be required.
- Work in a team with other members of staff.
- Undertake the management of the care of a group of patients over a period of time and organise the appropriate support services.
- Maintain a high standard of care by personal example, professional appearance and conduct.
- Keep professionally updated.
- Maintain adequate stock of medicines and drugs exercising responsibility for their use, safekeeping, and storage.
- Maintain appropriate reports and records of medical and nursing care as required by management and the registering authority.
- Conduct supervisions for set members of staff on a regular basis.
Personal Responsibilities
- Assist the manager to ensure that all untrained staff are instructed in their duties and responsibilities, monitoring their progress, and supervising when necessary.
- Give support and loyalty to all staff members as stated in ‘clause 11’ of the NMC Code of Conduct.
- Report any infringement of discipline and malpractice to the manager of management in her absence.
- Use effective communication skills.
- Be aware of the image of the home and the importance of good public relations.
- Emphasise to untrained staff the need for confidentiality.
- To continually update own professional knowledge.
This job description is intended to be flexible and not finite. Other duties and responsibilities will be discussed with the post holder and implemented as required.
