An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of a band 5 staff nurse to work in one of our older people mental health wards in Leverndale hospital.
Balmore is a mixed sex 18 bed assessment ward for people with a diagnosis of dementia at varying stages and Banff ward is a 20 bedded functional assessment ward in Leverndale hospital in the South side of Glasgow. The hospital site also hosts Adult Mental Health inpatient wards, has staff wellbeing hubs and a focus on staff wellbeing.
The post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team within the context of an inpatient ward, will have responsibility for the assessment of patient care needs and the development and evaluation of programmes of care. High quality care provision using a biopsychosocial model of care is provided by the Multidisciplinary team including Mental health nurses, Health care support workers, Therapeutic activity nurse, Psychology, Psychiatry, Social work, Occupational therapy and physiotherapy staff working closely together to provide excellent person centred care and ensuring the best patient outcomes possible. Working alongside voluntary agencies including Alzheimer’s Scotland and Mental Health network we ensure family and carer involvement is prioritised and feedback welcomed and this informs our Quality Improvement and service development.
We are committed to ensuring all staff have access and protected time to continue their professional development. They will attend and participate in statutory and mandatory training as well as specialist training days/course e.g Stress and distress.
There will be opportunities to take the role of a link nurse of a specific topic that you have a particular interest in, attending training/information sharing forums and disseminating information to the wider team.
The post holder will be expected to carry out all relevant forms of care in partnership with patients, carers and other professionals in line with agreed standards and clinical policies.
The post holder will receive an agreed level of induction based on their experience. They will regularly take charge of the ward and the supervision and teaching of junior staff, both qualified and unqualified will be an important part of the role as will the mentoring of nurses undergoing basic or post-basic training.
The post holder will be expected to practice within the legal and ethical framework as defined by : -
Nursing & Midwifery council code of professional conduct;
National mental health regulated legislation;
National and local policy, guidelines and protocols.
