WHSmith is a leading, global travel retailer for the world’s travelling customer. Since 1792, we’re proud to have grown and evolved into a globally recognised brand, and we’re proud to be that air of familiarity people love and trust on their journey.
Today, we have more than 1,700 stores in over 30 countries across the globe, serving millions of customers every year. In the UK, you’ll find us at airports, railway stations, hospitals and at motorway service areas. Making our customers' journeys easier is our passion. Whether they're travelling by air, by foot, by road or by train, we are there for them. As one of the world's leading travel retailers, we are the trusted home for travel essentials in the UK and it's how we support the millions of journeys made each year.
As a diverse group of over fourteen thousand colleagues, our people and our customers are at the heart of everything we do. And we know to succeed on our own journey, we need the best people. We are currently seeking a Regional Business Manager to be accountable for all stores across the Midlands Region, made up of varying formats including; Airports, Railway stations, Hospitals, Cafes and Workplace.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to take on a region which ‘has it all’ plus lots of exciting refits and expansion plans for the future!
Are you looking for your next challenge? Have you got the passion and drive we are looking for? Does the accountability of a growing region interest you? This could be for you!
What you’ll do:
The main purpose of this key leadership role is to maximise the profitability of all stores and to deliver KPI’s and performance objectives in line with the Travel Stores Operating Plan and Strategy. With the autonomy to make big decisions across this region, you’ll need to understand the customer base and each store’s size. In-depth analysis will be essential to your tactics, using data to spot key trends and plan commercial strategies that will appeal to each customer base. To maximise sales, uphold standards and keep customers coming back, it will be down to you to lead and inspire your team.
Managing and motivating the managers, performance and all, is a real skill. You will be setting clear performance expectations and rigorously monitoring performance. You’ll also conduct store visits and voice conferences, to help each store implement strategies to hit KPIs in line with the Operating Plan, as well as overseeing trading losses and succession and people plans.
If you work hard and think smart, you’ll get the results you want. To achieve that you’ll need to build strong internal relationships with a range of stakeholders, including the Head Office teams. Deliver success and we’ll give you a fast track to so much more.
Who we’re looking for:
When it comes to senior retail management within multi-site retail, you really know your stuff, you’ll already be working within WH Smiths and have a proven record of how to lead and inspire your team to get the best results.
With this knowledge, you bring a flair for innovation and pin-sharp commercial acumen, this will help you plan ahead as you take full responsibility for your region.
However, it takes more than that to get multiple stores to perform. You’ll also need to be impeccably organised, have the capability to deliver through your team. Last, but never least, you need the communication skills to connect with hundreds of diverse staff and the people management experience to take care of a range of potential challenges. Engaging and persuasive, you’ll inspire your team to perform and achieve the targets you set them.
