Job description

We’re looking for Graduates to join us on our Recycling Strategy and Innovation Graduate Scheme to begin in September 2023. We are a forward-looking company with a desire to remain both innovative and sustainable in an increasingly global market. We are looking for highly motivated, emotionally intelligent, hardworking, articulate communicators like you to help us achieve our growth aspirations.
What is Recycling?
Our Recycling Division enables DS Smith to capture paper and card for recycling in our UK, European and US paper mills. It is a division that enables our fully integrated closed loop business model of producing fibre-based packaging and recycling it back in to new packaging through our recycling depots, paper mills and packaging plants.
Our Strategy & Innovation Team sits at the heart of this division, and drives our sustainability, circularity and operational excellence agenda for the whole division. You’ll join this team on a two-year programme, developing your understanding of our division and how we drive the Circular economy, and benefit from working with a large network of divisional and Group colleagues.
Alongside the role-specific skills you’ll develop, you will be part of a large cohort of cross functional graduates from across the business, who you will develop your careers alongside, and can provide a community and support network where you can share development experiences.
Locations:
This role will be fully remote with successful applicants being based from home in the UK.
About the programme
The successful candidate will benefit from working on projects and initiatives relating to the ‘DS Smith Way’, our lean programme and will be actively contributing to our continuous improvement activities both centrally and supporting the regional teams where required. This aspect of the role will require willingness to travel.
You will be given the opportunity to own and manage projects and objectives utilising the DS Smith Project Framework. You will gain theoretical knowledge in continuous improvement methodologies through training as well as gain experience in how these are implemented in an operational environment.
You will be actively contributing to our sustainability, recyclability, and circularity projects. Including management of your own specific projects. Helping drive forward the importance of recyclability of fibre-based packaging both within DS Smith and the wider industry. You will be required to research policy developments and legislation in this area and apply it to our business.
Development Opportunities:
Alongside the role-specific skills you’ll develop, you’ll be in a cohort of graduates and together we’ll offer you a world class development programme which will support you in becoming one of our future leaders.
  • In year one the focus is on understanding yourself; your skills, your strengths and how to realise your potential.
  • In year two your development will be about understanding others, how to work effectively in teams and how to lead.

Good analytical skills, ability to use a multitude of IT programmes (Office is essential), effective communication and presentation skills will be required.
