DEFINITION
To perform a variety of duties in support of the college materials processing function including the receipt, storage, issuance and inventory of materials, supplies, tools and equipment; and to process the mail including distribution of incoming and outgoing mail.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from the Supervisor, Shipping & Receiving/Fleet- Exercises no supervision.
ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTION STATEMENTS-
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
Receive, stock, and issue materials and supplies; verify incoming shipments for appropriate quantity and quality.- Inventory supplies and materials; report replacement needs; assist in annual inventory.
- Pick up the mail from the post office; sort and deliver mail to various college departments; collect and deliver inter-office mail; prepare outgoing mail with appropriate postage; prepare and package items for outgoing shipments.
- Maintain files; compile records of supply transactions; input and retrieve data from various systems such as Colleague and Softdocs.
- Deliver incoming materials, supplies and equipment to appropriate college departments; travel to various facilities as necessary including the Burgaw Center, North Campus, and Surf City.
- Process invoices, and purchase orders ensuring appropriate approvals are obtained; requisition and purchase a variety of supplies via a college issued P-Card.
- Operate various equipment including a forklift, postage machine, bar code scanner, name plate engraver, computer, and office machines; unload, lift and carry materials and supplies as necessary.
- Process fleet vehicles for college use.
- Handle incoming and outgoing hazardous materials.
- Maintain warehouse in a clean and orderly manner.
- Collect locked bank bags from the Burgaw Center, North Campus, and Surf City and deliver to business office
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
- Work with the Equipment Inventory Coordinator
- Work at North Campus on an as needed basis.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
- Modern warehousing procedures.
- Inventory procedures and forms.
- Laws and standard operating procedures regarding the processing of U.S. mail and inter-department mail.
- Basic principles and procedures of record keeping and basic accounting skills.
- Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment.
- Safe work practices.
- Basic mathematical principles.
Ability to:
- Understand and apply U. S. postal regulations concerning all classes of mail.
- Organize, stock and issue supplies and equipment.
- Prepare and maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
- Maintain accurate records.
- Operate various equipment including a forklift.
- Operate a computer and maintain computerized records.
- Perform simple arithmetic computations.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Understand and apply Department of Transportation regulations for shipping merchandise including hazardous materials.

Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum Experience:
No experience required
Preferred Experience:
Experience processing various classes of USPS mail is preferred.
Two years warehouse or delivery experience
License or Certificate
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license.- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate certification to operate forklift.
