Job description
If you share our vision and you are passionate about Science, we are looking for an R&D Chemist to join our team to help us develop our proprietary photosynthetic- enhancement technology.

ROLE
As R&D Chemist, your main role is to contribute towards the development of Glaia’s pioneering 2nd generation biostimulants by developing new products and carrying out the synthesis and formulation of novel biostimulant candidates based on our proprietary carbon-nanotechnology.
As this role is essential to the success of Glaia, it is a unique opportunity for a proactive individual looking to become a key member of a growing company. There is potential to quickly transition towards a senior role within the company with potential benefits including increased remuneration, access to EMI options and greater responsibilities.
In this role you will:
- Work with the CSO to successfully deliver product development projects to required
timescales
- Stay up to date with literature and contribute to R&D planning
- Design and synthesise new carbon-based biostimulants
- Characterise the new products by different techniques
- Collaborate with other members of the R&D team (eg plant biologists)
- Keep accurate and complete records of all experimental work performed
- Write technical reports for both internal and external circulation
- Co-ordinate and drive project activities
- Prepare and review data and company documentation as required
- Contribute towards other tasks as neededGiven the fast-paced startup environment, you will be expected to be:

REQUIREMENTS
If you are passionate about using your acquired skills/tools in synthetic organic Chemistry to tackle some of the most challenging problems in agriculture (e.g. photosynthesis) please reach out to us.
Essential skills
- Masters’ degree in organic, biological or materials chemistry or similar subjects; a relevant PhD is not necessary but would be advantageous
- Practical experience in organic/synthetic chemistry
- Practical experience in applied chemistry
- Practical experience in standard analysis techniques (eg NMR, IR, TLC)
- Excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Strong planning, organising, prioritising and decision-making skills
- Ability to think outside the box
- Hands-on mentality and entrepreneurial mindset
- Strong attention to detail, consistently working to a high standard

Desirable skills
- Practical experience in the synthesis of carbon-based nanomaterials
- Knowledge in advanced characterisation techniques (eg TEM, AFM, 2D-NMR)
- Experience in chemical biology, ideally plant biology
- Experience in fertiliser/biostimulant formulations
- Demonstrated skills for conducting R&D with a team that results in advancement of the state-of-the-art
- Startup Know-how to work under limited resources, with most factors unknown.
- Experience on leading process development activities as part of new product and/or technology development
