Job description

Quality Assurance Engineer

Location: Milton Keynes (Hybrid)

Team: Product Development

The Role:

We are looking for a Quality Assurance Engineer to join one of our product delivery team focused on delivering for internal users, working on in house applications and microservices integrated with third party applications. You will become an expert on how our products are used and understand where the risks are to drive your testing approach.

We are one of the biggest home-grown brands in the UK. At Rightmove we are developing products to make the experience of finding a home better, quicker and happier for our users.

As a team we believe:

Being a QA engineer is more than just testing, we are champions of quality and we are passionate about embedding it throughout the lifecycle to prevent defects rather than find them, and to build systems we are proud of rather than break them.

We believe in testing continuously rather than at the end and that quality is the responsibility of the whole team. We are subject matter experts guiding our teams to think critically about all aspects of delivery not just functional but for example in areas like security, performance, accessibility and usability.

As a quality assurance engineer, you are responsible for:

  • Actively participating in the refinement sessions by covering appropriate details like acceptance tests, Implementation details, Risks, Release & monitoring details etc in the tickets
  • Helping the team understand and estimate any test efforts, test dependencies during Planning and refinement sessions
  • Reviewing requirements to understand gaps, the potential user impact, risk and dependencies on other internal/external services in Rightmove
  • Reviewing the designs and helping the team deliver features that are accessible and inclusive to everyone
  • Pairing with engineers during development and code review to ensure appropriate test coverage at different levels and to avoid any duplication of efforts
  • Ensuring our automation test framework and coverage is targeted, relevant, efficient and resilient
  • Working with the team to determine the root cause of issues, for example: using logs, elastic search and database
  • Actively participating in the QA ceremonies within the team such as Bug backlog and triage process
  • Actively contributing to our QA community, by sharing your experience and learning from others

We would love someone to have any of the following:

  • Quality Assurance in software, testing large scale applications
  • Experience working with Elastic Search, Kafka, Oracle DB and similar data stores would be big plus
  • Experience working in an agile environment with continuous release mechanisms
  • Experience working within a complex microservice architecture
  • Exposure to running and debugging automated test suites
  • Experienced in using API testing tools such as Postman, REST Assured
  • Ability to influence within your domain of expertise
  • Ability to adapt to change and a hunger to learn and experiment with new technologies and process
