Job description
We are looking to recruit an Assistant Psychologist to join our psychology team in Secure Services. Secure Services consists of Fromeside, our 80 bed medium secure unit and Wickham, our 30 bed low secure unit, both based on the Blackberry Hill Hospital site in north Bristol. Service-users are all sectioned under the mental health act and have offending histories or a history of challenging and/or violent behaviour in both units.
Individuals with a psychology degree and previous assistant experience in mental health are invited to apply.
Applicants would have the opportunity to work across both the medium and low secure services. Wickham House is for male mentally disordered offenders and Fromeside has a mixed gender population in separate ward areas.
The post will involve assisting psychologists in delivering different aspects of the psychological service, including psychometric assessment, group work, general admin tasks, file reviews and some individual work where appropriate.
An important part of the role will be to support the delivery of ward based groups and assisting with our Violence Prevention Programme. The post-holder will be expected to use the principles of ‘recovery’ across the different elements of the service with specific models of care in place in the Women’s Service and Cary ward (our LD and neurodevelopmental disorders ward)..
The post-holder will receive regular supervision from a qualified psychologist. They will join an experienced and friendly psychology department with expertise in working with sex offenders, violence, trauma and with service users with a diagnosis of personality disorder. There is a range of special interests within the department including different clinical models and approaches; there are good support, supervision and management structures.
