What we do:
As the granting team for CUPS, we bring in critical programmatic and operational funding to support frontline departments and administrative support roles to deliver sustainable client-oriented care. This team plays a vital role in supporting the community’s understanding and awareness of CUPS and the client community we serve.
We work independently to identify grant opportunities and assess grants and granting sources for alignment with CUPS’ values, work, and funding needs.
We work collaboratively with organizational leaders, fund development, and the reporting and evaluation teams to develop, execute and measure robust granting strategies that meet funding targets.
CUPS values all who choose to support CUPS work, and we develop stewardship plans that ensure donors’ contributions are acknowledged to our community and foster long-lasting relationships of support and reciprocity.

You are a highly organized, efficient and effective multi-tasker that can prioritize and strategize to complete tasks of varying complexity and length. You thrive under tight deadlines and manage well with fluctuations in workload levels. You are a self-starter and are comfortable managing your responsibilities with a high level of independence.
You will have experience communicating with a variety of audiences both internally and externally and have an aptitude for transforming complex program metrics into succinct statements of community impact. You have developed well-honed critical thinking skills and demonstrated experience with high-volume granting/proposal writing.
Comfort with basic financial reporting, manipulating spreadsheets, and making basic budget calculations will be required, along with a commitment to confidentiality when handling donor and financial information.

Grants and Proposal Writer: 1 Full Time (40hrs) Permanent Position
Grants and Proposal Writer is a key contributor in securing critical programmatic and operational funding to support frontline departments and business support functions to deliver sustainable client-oriented care. You will achieve this by researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals to various foundations, corporations, and government agencies. Your primary responsibility will be to interpret operational details and craft compelling and persuasive grant proposals that effectively communicate our organization's purpose, programs, and impact, in order to secure funding for our programs and initiatives.
- Important role in supporting the community’s understanding and awareness of CUPS’ brand, services, advocacy work, and impact
- Champion the success of CUPS Service delivery models of Integrated and Trauma-Informed Care through the highlighting of client & program success with those looking to support CUPS services
- Work closely with leadership in health, child development, housing, and integrated care programs to understand how and why programs are delivered, to support proposal writing, tracking, and reporting
Duties
- Conduct research to identify potential funding opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government that align with our CUPS mission and programs
- Grant Applications: Develop clear, concise, and persuasive grant proposals that effectively communicate our organization's goals, objectives, and programs. Tailor proposals to meet the specific requirements and guidelines of each funder. Ensure that all documentation, attachments, and supporting materials are complete and submitted by funder deadline
- Grant Management: Monitor and track grant awards, ensuring that grant funds are used in accordance with funder guidelines and that grant reports are submitted in a timely manner
- Grant Reporting: Source appropriate data and information for grant reporting purposes, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements and deadlines
- Maintain CUPS inventory of compelling narrative, technical descriptions, metrics, and more; sourced from internal and external sources (administrative - data storage)
- Contribute to the development, refinement and operationalization of efficient processes
- Stay informed about current funding trends, grant opportunities, and best practices in grant writing, and apply this knowledge to improve our organization's grant-seeking efforts
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with funders, to enhance our organization's visibility and funding opportunities
Requirements/Qualifications
- 1-3 years’ experience in fund development and/or grant writing for non-profit organizations,
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple grants, proposals and other fundraising activities on an ongoing basis
- Familiarity with the non-profit landscape in Calgary, Alberta, and understanding of local funding sources and opportunities
- Demonstrated experience with both technical and creative narratives
- Capacity to work in a self-directed manner and work collaboratively with others in a team situation
- An organized approach to work and attention to details
- The ability to prioritize and effectively handle multiple demands
- Experience with projects of various complexities, individually and on teams
- Experience with information gathering and research
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications. Comfort navigating web-based databases and funder portals. Experience with donor management software (ex. Raiser’s Edge) an asset
- Education in relevant field (e.g., communications, nonprofit management, business, or related field) an asset
- A commitment to AFP and CAGP Code of Ethics

- Work hours – Monday – Friday, 8am-4pm
- In office 4 days/week, 1 days flexible to work remotely
- Periods of stress due to work volume and deadline driven work pace
- Periodic exposure to secondary trauma via exposure to client stories
