Further information

This post requires a dynamic individual who will be committed to supporting children and young people receiving pre-court interventions and those subject to statutory court orders. The post holder will be required to do so by delivering a range of creative and individualised services focussed on preventing offending and reoffending.

The post holder will be required to work in collaboration with children, young people and their their families to ensure that they are supported with purpose, to access the tailored services they need to thrive. In doing so, the service aims to reduce the number of people affected by crime and minimise the impact that offending has on our community.

In order to reduce the stigmatising consequences that offending has on the lives of young people, we deliver a forward thinking, inclusive service that aims to develop a wider understanding of why offending within our population of young people occurs. Children will be recognised as such first, and their offending will be understood in the context of their lived experiences and development.

There will be a specific focus on the post holder establishing and maintaining positive links with partner agencies in the education, training and employment (ETE) sector, to increase opportunities for young people across the service. We are interested in receiving applications from people with previous experience across the ETE sector, though this is not essential.

In Swansea we understand the need to nurture and support staff. We are committed from the point of induction to support career development. The recently implemented workforce wellbeing strategy supports our focus on staff care and providing opportunities for seamless progression through the social work and senior practitioner pay scales. You will benefit from experienced and supportive managers and a risk sensible culture.

The fundamental responsibilities of this exciting post will be:

  • Holding a caseload of pre-court cases where ETE is a primary focus.
  • Completing proportionate prevention and diversionary assessments of children and young people.
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of interventions.
  • Developing and sustaining relationships with all partner agencies with a particular emphasis on establishing relationships across the ETE sector.
  • Assisting ETE providers to assess and best support young people open to the Youth Justice Service.
  • Identifying education, training and employment opportunities for young people across the service.
  • Contribute to the monitoring and reviewing of youth justice plans.
  • Developing and running group activities for children and young people with a focus on ETE.
  • Establish, sustain and develop working relationships with children, young people and their families.
  • Contribute to the protection of children.

Should you wish to discuss the post in further detail, please contact Phillipa Elliott, Practice Manager for Swansea Youth Justice Service at [email protected]
