In striving to meet its aspirations and to redeem Cardiff’s position as ‘an educationally outstanding and consistently high-quality student experience’, Cardiff University is undertaking a systematic three-year programme of student experience enhancement that is built upon the priorities set out in The Way Forward 2018-2023: Education and Students Sub-Strategy.
This is a three-year programme of student experience enhancement organised into a portfolio of projects and to support this programme we are seeking to appoint a Project Support Officer.
Led by the PVC Education and Student Experience, the overarching objectives of the portfolio are to lead and steer change by:
Working in partnership with students and staff in shaping and delivering the projects
Increasing capacity in Schools where possible to ensure sustainable and meaningful engagement with the projects
Focusing on supporting change in education practice
Ensuring that sponsorship, support and champions are actively promoting the portfolio within the academic community and other key stakeholder groups.
Working in support of Business Leads and Academic Partners, the Project Support Officer will be responsible for the successful planning, scheduling, monitoring and control, and closure of specific projects within the Portfolio,
The assignment may vary over time, and the role holder may be required to support other allocated projects should the need arise.
Salary: £29,762 - £34,314 per annum (Grade 5). The appointments are made on a fixed term basis for 2 yearsDate advert posted: Thursday, 20 April 2023

Job Description
The university has embarked on an ambitious and extensive programme to make a step change in the Student Experience at Cardiff University, supporting the way forward. This is an exciting opportunity to support Business Leads, Academic Partners and as part of a wider team to support several high-profile projects to enable successful outcomes and delivery. The role will require team working and engagement with a variety of stakeholders and understanding of organisational change.
The role holder will be responsible for the successful planning, scheduling, monitoring, control, and closure of a project or set of projects in support of specific mandates and objectives.
The assignment may vary over time, and the role holder may be required to support other allocated projects should the need arise.
Key Duties
Provide comprehensive professional project support to the Education and Student Experience Programme, providing support, advice and guidance to ensure the programme delivers its objectives on time.
Provide professional advice and guidance on programme and project management processes and procedures to internal and external customers, using judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action where appropriate, and ensure complex and conceptual issues are understood.
Investigate and analyse specific issues within the Education and Student Experience programme of change, creating recommendation reports where required.
Ensure that the provision of the Education and Student Experience programme is delivered to the institution, proactively changing the delivery according to customer/stakeholder requirements.
Collaborate with the Programme Team, Learning and Teaching Academy and wider support communities in order to make recommendations for developments to established processes and procedures.
Support Business Leads in establishing working relationships with key contacts, developing appropriate communication links with the University’s Schools/Directorates and outside bodies as required.
Create specific working groups from colleagues across the University to achieve the objectives of the Education and Student Experience Programme.
Undertake a variety of administrative duties to support the programme team
Instruct and guide other employees across the University on new developments being rolled out as part of the Education and Student Experience programme as required.

Essential Criteria
Qualifications and Education
Degree/NVQ 4 or equivalent Professional membership/experience
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Substantial experience of working within a programme/project support role.
Able to demonstrate professional knowledge of project or change management to give advice and guidance to internal and external customers.
Ability to set up standard office systems and procedures and make improvements as appropriate.
Customer Service, Communication and Team Working
Ability to communicate conceptually detailed and complex information effectively and professionally with a wide range of people.
Evidence of ability to explore customers’ needs and adapt the service accordingly to ensure a quality service is delivered.
Planning, Analysis and Problem solving
Evidence of ability to solve expansive problems using initiative and creativity, identifying and proposing practical solutions and resolving problems with a range of potential outcomes.
Evidence of demonstrable knowledge of key advances in project or change management.
Evidence of ability to work unsupervised to deadlines, planning and setting priorities for own work and that of others and monitoring progress.
