About Us

Warwick based – Hybrid Working – Brand New Role – Permanent

This is the time for action – we need to move at pace and reform our energy system – to deliver energy security, to tackle climate change and to protect our people.

The ESO Offshore Coordination project includes a PMO team, which consists of a close-knit group of 6 Project Managers and Administration Assistants; This is a brand new role as part of growth in the PMO team.
The team continues to deliver an exciting project that is critical to meeting net zero by 2050 and will help ensure the Offshore Wind ambitions of the UK, Scottish and Welsh governments can be met. Collaborating through the UK Government-led Offshore Transmission Network Review (OTNR), this role will play a key part in ensuring the delivery of a coordinated offshore and onshore transmission network in the best way for consumers, coastal communities, and the environment.

This role is based at our Warwick office which has free onsite parking, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home.

Leveraging this hybrid working, this team current work typically 1 day per week in the office, which is dependent on personal and business needs.

We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements and condensed hours requests.

About You

What we do isn’t just important – it’s essential. That’s why we value experts in their field.

This role is the highest staff grade position at The ESO and we are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Project Manager who:

  • Is confident in high paced, externally facing environments
  • Has core Project Management skills inclusive of scope, deliverables, scheduling, resource, change and costings
  • Can work collaboratively and flexibly with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, with strong stakeholder engagement skills

Naturally as a proven Project Manager, you will also be very familiar with project governance, risk identification and mitigation, as well as proficient with typical project tools and methodologies.
Just as importantly, you’ll bring a real interest and passion for electricity generation through wind projects, contributing to our journey toward Britain’s net zero carbon vision.
As such, we welcome applicants from inside or out of the industry, who demonstrate this interest and curiosity.

What You'll Do

As a Project Manager, within the Offshore Coordination PMO Team, you will be responsible for all aspects of the project management for specific workstreams within the project (including those that are engineering focused).

You will work closely with workstream leads to provide project management support, guidance, and challenge. You will ensure that all workstreams are scoped and planned with rigour, that performance/delivery is closely monitored, and risks/issues are identified and effectively mitigated.

There is the potential that the role could, in time, be broadened out to also provide support to other Networks’ projects, as required.

This role will report into the Offshore Coordination Project Manager and provides an excellent opportunity to work closely with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, such as the onshore Transmission Owners, offshore wind and interconnector developers, the government, and regulatory organisations.

What You'll Get

A competitive starting salary between £47,000 – £53,000 dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.

You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines, community engagement days and matched charity giving to name a few.

About Us

As Great Britain’s electricity system operator (ESO), we sit at the heart of the electricity system, using our outstanding engineering and commercial expertise to balance electricity supply and demand. Ultimately, we keep the electricity flowing directly to where it’s needed, second by second.

Becoming the Energy Future System Operator

As you may have seen the Government and Ofgem have asked the ESO to take on new roles and responsibilities to help deliver net-zero.

Becoming the Energy Future System Operator is a critical step to help deliver a reliable and clean energy transition for all. The ESO, including all of its existing roles, will be at the heart of the new Future System Operator, taking on additional roles with a whole energy system mindset to drive progress towards net zero while maintaining energy security and minimising costs for consumers.

The new organisation will be set up as a public corporation with operational independence from government – bringing parties together to support optimised decision making and action. As now, it will be licenced and regulated by Ofgem but funded by consumers through price control agreements. It is anticipated that the new organisation will be up and running by or in 2024.

More Information

This role closes on March 14th at 23:59, however we encourage candidates to submit their application as early as possible and not wait until the published closing date as this can vary.

Interviews will be held mid-late March via Teams video call.

At National Grid ESO, we work towards the highest standards in everything we do, including how we support, value and develop our people. Our aim is to encourage and support employees to thrive and be the best they can be. We celebrate the difference people can bring into our organisation, and welcome and encourage applicants with diverse experiences and backgrounds, and offer flexible and tailored support, at home and in the office.
We're committed to building a workforce that represents the communities we serve, and a working environment in which each individual feels valued, respected, fairly treated, and able to reach their full potential.
