Job description
The White Rose Forest (WRF) is the community forest for North and West Yorkshire and one of 13 community forest partnerships in England. Our partnership of nearly 40 organisations, includes local authorities, national parks, charities, community groups and businesses, with Kirklees Council as the accountable body. For more information about the White Rose Forest visit: www.whiteroseforest.org.
Our aim is by 2050 to significantly increase tree cover in North and West Yorkshire and to bring existing woodlands into management and to do so by bringing people, businesses and communities into the process of planning, planting, and looking after the trees and new woodlands.
To help shape these aims with our many stakeholders and partners, we will produce a WRF Plan 2025-2050. The Plan will lay out our approach to:
· nature recovery by protecting, improving, and connecting our ancient woodlands, promoting habitat connectivity and species migration across North and West Yorkshire.
· how we best support landowners and farmers to improve their businesses and promote environmental benefits.
· involving communities and businesses in creating healthy, accessible, green spaces to improve health outcomes.
· identifying key landowners with whom we want to work with and important geographical target areas within North and West Yorkshire.
· supporting natural flood management and processes to green our urbans areas to create a more climate resilient and human-friendly living environment for all.
· supporting local authorities and other landowners to manage and expand their tree stock.
· attracting and shaping future funding options for woodland creation from Government and the private sector.
We are therefore looking for a capable and motivated individual with the necessary skills and experience to project manage the development of this Plan.
The White Rose Forest Project Manager will be employed through the Community Forest Trust on behalf of the White Rose Forest and will work as part of the WRF Core Team. The post holder will have access to all systems available to the wider team, and training opportunities as required.
We are very passionate about what we do and the difference we are making, and the development of this Plan is a key element to shaping the future of the White Rose Forest. The post is available on a fixed term basis until March 2025.
To be successful within the role, you will require strong previous experience in a strategic planning role. You will require high level analytical skills with the ability to effectively report to and communicate with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, and to present complicated information clearly and concisely to a wide audience. You will also be required to manage, analyse and report on stakeholder consultations as part of the report development process.
A Masters-level degree or other relevant qualification is also desirable for the WRF Plan Project manager Role.
The WRF Plan Project manager, as with all members of the central WRF team, will work from home without an office base. However, there is the requirement to attend monthly meetings in locations spread across North and West Yorkshire and also as required by the needs of the organisation. You well therefore require the ability to travel independently to such locations.
Please apply with a covering letter detailing why you are interested in the role and a CV. The closing date for applications is 18th June 2023 with anticipated interview dates from w/c 26th June 2023. Please contact us for the full job specification before applying.
