Renishaw’s Machine Tool Products leads the market in delivering innovative, high accuracy measurement solutions to CNC machining processes around the world.
Our patented touch trigger probe technology was first employed to measure intricate components for Concorde engines; today (and many iterations later) our products are the benchmark in high precision engineering for manufacturing hundreds of everyday items like mobile phones and laptops through to car and aircraft parts. There’s a good chance our probes were involved in the production of the device you are reading this text on.
Renishaw’s Machine Tools Products Division (MPD) have an opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer within the New Product Design team based at the York site. The role will include all aspects of the design process, from initial concept through to finished product and continual development and support.
Responsibilities
- Innovate - concept generation and development of new product design.
- Analyse - learn and understand from existing and new designs.
- Develop - improve current product design.
- Detail - create mechanical part and assembly drawings.
- Validate - build prototypes, customer evaluation systems and test.
- Quality - design for manufacture and high reliability.
- Document - generation of supporting reports, instructions and regulatory compliance evidence.
- Teamwork - supporting a small multi-disciplinary team with challenging design requirements to meet project deliverables.
Key requirements
- HND or Degree in mechanical engineering or a similar discipline and/or relevant experience in a similar role.
- Expertise in the use of 3D CAD to create designs and detailed drawings.
- Implementation of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Excellent knowledge of manufacturing techniques and technology.
- Awareness of Engineering Change Processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office and data analysis packages.
- Occasional travel including to other Renishaw sites.
Desirable requirements
- Familiarity with Siemens NX (Unigraphics) and Teamcenter.
- The ability to create FEA models and make recommendations from the results.
- Experience in opto-mechanical and/or electro-mechanical disciplines.
- Design, develop and use test rigs to analyse product performance.
- Operate prototyping and mechanical workshop tools.
- Knowledge of Machine Tool Products and applications.
- Knowledge and understanding of FMEA’s & Risk Assessments.
Person specification
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an innovative approach to design, supported by good problem solving skills and attention to detail. They will be able to work as part of a multi-disciplined team where collaboration and communicating effectively will be key. The role will also require a hands on approach and the ability to prove out the design solution.
