Your new role

Here at National Highways, we have an exciting new opportunity for an Assistant Project Manager to join the Regional Investment Programme (RIP) division within the Major Projects (MP) directorate.

The successful candidate will be based from our Manchester office with onsite presence needed, however here at National Highways, we have a hybrid working approach, meaning the role will be a combination of office/site attendance and agile home working.

In this role you will contribute to the planning and delivery of Major projects and initiatives, carrying out assigned project work to ensure the achievement of project objectives within agreed time, quality, and cost thresholds; maintaining effective governance, quality assurance, health and safety, technical and specialist standards.

What you’ll be leading on

  • Contribute to the creation of high-quality baseline management products, produce timely and accurate reports, and create and maintain specified records.
  • Carry out feasibility, design, and assessment work for proposed projects, to inform the development of business cases and investment proposals.
  • Plan and define project steps or schedules, consistent with defined review milestones and priorities, to contribute to the design of the overall project plan.
  • Contribute to the identification, implementation and monitoring of day-to-day support for the project activities including project controls, contract compliance, risk management, Health & Safety, financial management and reporting, document control, assurance and governance.
  • Contribute to the identification and evaluation of emerging risks, issues, dependencies and constraints associated with the project, and the development and implementation of solutions to overcome these.

To be successful you’ll need

  • Strong collaborator, able to gain the involvement and engagement of a wide range of stakeholders with ability to deal positively with conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to clarify and ensure understanding of strategies and solutions.
  • Strong analytical skills, to develop, analyse and provide commentary on project plans and performance.
  • Demonstrable understanding of project control processes.
  • Experience of working in a fast paced, integrated project environment.
