Your new role
National Highways have an exciting opportunity for a Stakeholder Project Manager to join the Regional Investment Programme (RIP) within the Major Projects (MP) directorate.
This role will require you to draw on your proven knowledge and experience of successful stakeholder engagement and communications & customer management relating to project delivery. You will help manage the relationships with stakeholders from across our business and instruct and manage our supply chain to deliver all engagement to a high standard under the National Highways brand.
You will be working on the A66 Northern Trans-Pennine project contributing to the delivery of a billion-pound investment to upgrade 50 miles of the road between Cumbria and North Yorkshire.
This role can be based in any of our offices in the North of England (Manchester, Leeds, Warrington, Penrith, or Darlington), however the role may involve travel across the North of England, which can be expensed. National Highways also offer a hybrid working approach, which is to be agreed on a local basis with line management.
What you’ll be leading on
- Build relationships with, and be the first point of contact for, the integrated project team regarding stakeholder engagement, providing advice and developing engagement plans, which may include public consultations.
- Assist with developing and maintaining reciprocal relationships with external and strategic stakeholders and provide direction to our delivery partners on the National Highways corporate stakeholder approach and on the stakeholder engagement expectations for the project
- Design, agree and implement stakeholder project plans, to ensure that all activities are appropriately organised to deliver project objectives, are appropriately resourced to deliver the required outcomes.
- Lead meetings with key stakeholders, for example local authorities, prepare papers and other materials for discussion, follow up on actions and coordinate activities.
- Accurately record engagement activity using our CRM system. Provide advice, guidance, and training on CRM system, where necessary, to ensure it is used by our delivery partners and project team.
- Work collaboratively with our delivery partners to improve our engagement with stakeholders, monitoring performance and influencing and acting upon any issues.
To be successful you’ll need
- Knowledge of key principles and experience of leading stakeholder engagement on a wide range of projects/issues, including those that are complex, medium/high risk or high-profile.
- Experience of managing complex relationships with multiple stakeholders, including internal colleagues, and evidence of skills to influence relationships for positive outcomes and developing advocacy.
- Experience of writing, agreeing, implementing and measuring proactive plans and detailed stage plans in conjunction with delivery partners.
- To be confident in communicating with and influencing internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience in using a CRM system, ideal, and of joined up engagement across numerous projects.
