The Project Manager:
The Project Manager is a key hire for the Mocean Energy team. The Project Manager will play a fundamental role, working within our Projects Team, leading on complex projects.
Mocean Energy is a small, fast-growing start-up with a fun and enthusiastic culture. You will have exposure to a variety of aspects of business from technology R&D to business management. You will have the opportunity to grow with us and help us reach our ambitions of developing wave energy to address climate change. Please note: It is likely that travel will be required, within the UK and possibly overseas.
Project Manager Duties and Responsibilities:
You’ll quickly find that in the role of Project Manager, no two days are the same! However, some of the more frequent, day-to-day duties and responsibilities will include:
- Managing complex technical projects involving multiple internal and external stakeholders.
- Work alongside Mocean’s technical team and contractors to deliver R&D projects.
- Work alongside Mocean’s commercial and operational teams to support commercial efforts.
- Interface with project funders.
- Manage the full lifecycle of prototype and product development including design, build, commissioning and offshore testing.
- Use IT for project management including Microsoft Project and SharePoint .
- Write-up and present project related documentation information.
Project Manager Skills and Attributes Required:
To be successful in the position of Project Manager, you’ll need the following skills, attributes and experience:
- Self-starter with a can-do, positive attitude.
- Experience managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
- Technical and/or operational background, particularly with electrical machines and/or offshore projects.
- Experience working within small / start-up organisation.
- Well-developed planning / organisational skills.
- Willingness to engage in a wide variety of tasks.
- Diplomatic and confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
Nice to Have, but not Essential:
There are some things which you don’t need to be able to do, but which will really make your application stand out if you do! These include:
- Education: Relevant Bachelors’ degree, Masters’ degree or PhD desirable but not essential.
- Experience: Work experience in science, physics or engineering preferably related to offshore technologies and experience with electrical machines.

Who We Are:
At Mocean Energy we have built an expert team combining scientific principles and real-world experience to develop new renewable technologies which can harness the power of waves – and accelerate the transition to a zero-carbon world. While wave energy companies of the past have focused on large, utility-scale devices, Mocean develops products targeted at niche markets where wave energy has a significant value proposition.
Our first product, Blue Star, is a small Wave Energy Converter (WEC) used to power subsea equipment, supporting the decarbonisation in the offshore energy industry. Future products will address power for islands and utility-scale power combined with offshore wind.
Our technology is proven through offshore trials last year and further trials with customers and partners in 2022-23. We are closing a Seed investment round to deliver contracts for first offshore commercial projects.

Other Relevant Information:
You may also be required to undertake travel to sites across the UK, in order to support the company and our project management functions at on-site projects.

Location: Edinburgh or Aberdeen is preferred, but we’re flexible on location and home-working.
Salary: £40,000 - £60,000, depending on experience and role suitability.
