Start date will be immediate whilst we look to enroll the successful candidate onto the September 23 Portsmouth University Project Management (degree) course, level 6.

JOB SUMMARY

The Project Management Apprenticeship will start in September 2023 predominately based within the Basingstoke office. You will work under the close supervision of senior colleagues and the nature of the work can be fast paced to meet the client and project deadlines. The role requires sound logic, analytical and excellent communication skills, and a willingness to learn and develop practical skills.

Our Environmental Solutions capability is an exciting and different area of the business which sees us undertake environmental works on site as a technically proficient specialist contractor or spearheading our major consulting programmes. Our projects commonly include large scale surveys and site investigations, remediation of brownfield land and creation of new habitat. Robust, pragmatic project management is at the heart of these projects ensuring we meet budgets, programmes and quality outcomes.

As part of the apprenticeship, you will work towards a Project Management Degree Apprenticeship with Portsmouth University (https://www.port.ac.uk/study/courses/bsc-hons-project-management-degree-apprenticeship), Over the course of the 4-year apprenticeship programme you will have dedicated study days provided and access to a range of online and blended learning tools.

Applicants must be willing to commit to the 4-year programme, subject to successful completion of an initial 6-month probationary period at AECOM.

The apprenticeship would be full time, with four days spent working at AECOM and one day per week spent on day release to Portsmouth University.

Expenses incurred for travel to AECOM offices other than Basingstoke and for travel to university for the purposes of the Project Management course will be covered by AECOM.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

AECOM Typical Project Management Duties

Apprentices are likely to gain exposure on some of the duties outlined below, however, this will be dependent on the stage of the project they are working on.

Responsibilities will also include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting project directors, managers, and wider project teams in the delivery of projects, including environmental impact assessments.
  • Assisting in the delivery of project outputs including – environmental reports and related technical studies.
  • Attendance at and participation in project team meetings, client meetings and internal meetings, including training sessions
  • Prioritising tasks and meeting commitments on an on-going basis and taking ownership and responsibility for the completion and quality of work.
  • Undertaking calculations and analysing the data of completed surveys.
  • Technical report writing and reviewing technical documents.
  • Ensuring health and safety issues are embedded in project delivery from the outset; and becoming an integral and valued member of the Environment team
  • Some travel may be required to attend client meetings or other offices/sites


Qualifications


This position is ideally suited to either school leavers or individuals looking to make a career change.

Prior experience of working in environmental consultancy is not necessary, however, to be accepted onto the University of Portsmouth Project Management Degree Apprenticeship programme you will need to meet the following minimum entry requirements:

  • Minimum 120 UCAS points (or equivalent) this would typically be 3 A levels or equivalent with qualifying grades.
  • An acceptable Level 2 qualification in English and Mathematics. Acceptable qualifications include GCSE with grade C/4 or above and Functional Skills with Pass
  • An interest in and desire to pursue a career in Project and Programme Management
  • An aptitude towards good logic, problem solving and strong organizational skills
  • Commitment to continued education and improvement through on-the-job learning and training
  • Ability to work virtually / remote working
  • Ability to works as part of a team
  • Practical, adaptable, and enthusiastic
  • English language proficient, holding excellent communication skills.
  • Able to demonstrate excellent report writing skills with computer skills in MS Word and MS Excel
  • Hardworking and enthusiastic.
  • Practical and adaptable.
  • Able to demonstrate attention to detail
  • Self-motivated and organised.
  • Able to demonstrate a commitment to continued education and improvement through participating in our approved training scheme
  • Able to research and interpret information from a variety of sources
  • Good interpersonal skills and a collaborative team approach
  • Proficient in English and with excellent verbal and written communication skills; and
  • Willing and able to visit other locations on company business (if necessary).
