Job description
South East England
£23,745 per annum based on 28 hours per week
Could you coordinate the activities of a youth project which provides group support and 121 casework to young asylum seekers and refugees?
We have an exciting new opportunity for a Project Coordinator to join our Refugee Support and Restoring Family Links (RSRFL) team. We are a small team all connected by the common goal of helping people who have been displaced because of their migration status.
Your focus will be on coordinating our Group Work project for refugees and asylum seeking young people aged 15-25 based in South East England. You will oversee developing, coordinating and delivering the project and will undertake a range of duties designed to develop, maintain and promote our service. We’re seeking a highly organised, creative individual. If you enjoy coming up with new ideas and working in a person-centred environment, we’d love to hear from you!
A day in the life of a Young Refugee Project Coordinator will involve:
You’ll develop and coordinate our group work project for unaccompanied asylum-seeking and refugee young people aged 15-25. The project aims to meet the needs of young people who have arrived in the UK, some of which arrive without a parent or guardian. Many will be suffering from a number of complex issues including social isolation and alienation, trauma, lack of self-confidence and low self-esteem.
You’ll plan and facilitate the weekly activity sessions and trips with the aim of building life skills, improving confidence, aid personal and social development, enable young refugees to meet other young people and improve their English language skills.
From the group work sessions and engagement with young people, you will become aware of individual needs that need to be addressed to help young people develop. As a result, this post will undertake a small amount of casework, delivered on a 121 basis, to help these young people access the relevant services and advice that they need.
As part of this role, constant communication will be needed, with social workers, foster carers, external organisations and of course directly with the Young people that we work with.
This will be a rewarding role; the project has already made such a difference to young refugees in the area. By helping us continue this support, you’ll be making a tangible difference and enabling us to achieve our mission of supporting people in crisis.
To be a successful Young Refugee Project Coordinator, You’ll need:
- You have experience of supporting or working with young people
- You understand issues relating to asylum seekers and refugees, including young asylum seekers and refugees
- You're a team player and a great communicator; communicating effectively in group settings with the ability to adapt your style to suit your audience.
- You're able to support, manage and develop volunteers (previous experience of managing volunteers would be an advantage).
- You're organised; you have great time management skills and are able to plan, prioritise and monitor your own and others’ workload
- Holidays – You’ll get 36 days annual leave (including bank holidays) and the option to buy an additional 5 days leave.
- Pension scheme– We offer up to 6% contributory pension.
- Flexible working – We will do what we can to make sure you work in a way that suits you
- Learning & Development Opportunities – We are one of the UK’s largest charities and have a wide range of career opportunities. We also provide comprehensive learning opportunities for staff to develop themselves.
- Discounts – You’ll have access to brilliant discounts through the Blue Light Discount Card and our own employee benefits platform.
- Wellbeing Support – Staff wellbeing is always priority. You’ll have access to mental health and wellbeing support.
- Team Working – You will be working as part of a team that is supporting our mission of helping people in crisis.
- Cycle2Work -The cycle to work scheme enables you to lease a bicycle.
- Season ticket loan – We offer an interest free loan to buy a season ticket for travel between home and work
