TRAFFIC is the leading non-governmental organization working globally on trade in wild animals and plants in the context of both biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.

TRAFFIC International is a charity and limited company registered in the UK. TRAFFIC’s head office, based in Cambridge UK, provides worldwide leadership, coordination, cross-regional, and corporate functions. TRAFFIC’s local engagement is managed through programme offices operating under the auspices of the UK charity, with staff based in a hub office and at other strategic locations where necessary. Programme offices operate within a geographic area of responsibility focused on one or multiple countries where TRAFFIC aims to help deliver priority programme outcomes. TRAFFIC works in strategic alliance with IUCN and WWF on wildlife trade issues.

The salary for this position is £35,492 p.a.

JOB DESCRIPTION

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

This position works across TRAFFIC’s programme, supporting the coordination of global programme-level periodic monitoring and reporting of performance and results against TRAFFIC Strategy, and supporting the coordination of the annual programme work planning process. This position implements the Programme Information Management and Monitoring System and plays an important role in fostering learning and knowledge sharing among programme staff across the organization.

The Programme Coordination Officer will work closely with the Strategy, Programme and Impact team, Programme Coordination Team, Global Programme Group and TRAFFIC’s programme offices.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

Programme Coordination

  • Coordinate global programme-level periodic monitoring and reporting of performance and results of TRAFFIC’s Strategy, including progress on goals, objectives and interim results.
  • Lead on developing programme-level (not restricted project funding) reports and analysing progress as part of regular programme-level monitoring and evaluation.
  • Develop and implement relevant programme management and monitoring tools, including the Programme Information Management and Monitoring System (PIMMS).
  • Work together with TRAFFIC’s Monitoring & Evaluation Officer on the development, delivery, tracking and reporting of TRAFFIC’s Monitoring & Evaluation plans and resulting Learning for selected projects.
  • Foster learning and knowledge sharing among programme staff across the organization, including through the thematic exchange sessions, Programme Forum meetings, and the Knowledge Hub.
  • Deliver the induction on TRAFFIC’s Programme to new starters.
  • Provide information on the programme as required from internal and external TRAFFIC contacts
  • Coordinating with the Programme Coordination Team (PCT) on PCT and Programme Forum and related meetings administration (including scheduling meetings, writing minutes, and agendas, circulating reference materials) and delivery.
  • Representing TRAFFIC as a focal person for the Conservation Leadership MPhil at the University of Cambridge, which involves coordination based on TRAFFIC’s programmatic priorities.
  • Coordinate with TRAFFIC’s Communications team on programme-driven communications.
  • Contribute to the technical and quality control of TRAFFIC’s work, including reviewing text, budgets, reports.

Programme Development

  • Implement the annual work planning process including through the Programme Forum and Global Programme Meetings (which may be virtual or face-to-face).
  • Review periodically the annual workplan progress to identify gaps that should be prioritised for fundraising, and to coordinate programme delivery responses through relevant teams, including PCT and the Programme Forum.
  • Liaise with the Development team, and relevant Programme office teams to identify opportunities for programme gap-driven fundraising.
  • Supporting the development of project proposals prioritized for programme goals and objectives delivery: working with identified proposal development leads, and technical and operations staff to produce robust project proposals.

Other

  • Supports the communications of TRAFFIC’s work and results to interested institutions, donors, and the general public.
  • Contributes to the development, technical review and quality control of TRAFFIC materials.
  • Represents TRAFFIC with internal and external audiences as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • At least a first degree in environmental sciences or a similar subject.

  • Experience with the programme-level monitoring, evaluation and learning.

  • Good understanding of wildlife trade and use issues, and passion for TRAFFIC’s mission.

  • High proficiency in the use of MS Access and Excel.

  • Strong organizational skills, including attention to detail.

  • Strong editing and writing skills in English.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and under pressure and to set own work priorities as appropriate and a capacity to meet deadlines.

  • Fluency in English with excellent English writing skills with working knowledge of any other languages an advantage.

  • Ability to undertake work-related travel when and where necessary.
