The Strategic Initiatives (SI) team at Specsavers was set up to ensure a focus on the long-term sustainability of the business, focusing on three areas of strategic development – innovation, business growth and business transformation. The SI projects team are responsible for the set-up, experimentation, and delivery of diverse and innovative initiatives. This role offers a rare and exciting opportunity to be part of shaping the future of Specsavers.
Your purpose
Reporting to the Head of Programme Management, the role will partner with commercial and strategic development leaders across the SI team. Other key stakeholders will often include regional, global and SMEs leaders whom you will partner to; shape, develop and deliver cross-functional and cross-regional initiatives and experiments identified within the Strategic Initiatives portfolio. The role will also support other business transformation activities where necessary.
This role is designed to provide breadth and stretch to an individual who is keen to build knowledge and develop skills in strategic and commercial development. Additionally, due to the nature of the type of initiatives the role will lead, the ideal candidate would have experience of a range of delivery and planning methodologies, as there is a ‘no one-size fits all’ approach to our delivery.
This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week and will be mostly remote working with some essential business travel as and when required. Ideally, you’ll live within a commutable distance to our office in Whiteley or Nottingham.
Your role
- Partnering Heads of Commercial Development & SI Strategy Leaders to help to define and provide the appropriate development & delivery structure for initiatives and leading on the coordination of cross-functional and multi-region initiatives and experiments.
- Working in partnership with the SI team, demonstrating responsibility for continuous improvement around our development and delivery ways of working.
- Ensuring ideas are taken through the appropriate route, assessing the desirability, feasibility, viability and scalability of initiatives at the right pace and moments in time.
- Developing plans, objectives and scope by partnering with initiative sponsors.
- Analysing and monitoring; actions, risks, dependencies, key decisions, and costs. Facilitating the progress and resolution of these, removing barriers, and escalating where appropriate.
This list is not exhaustive so you’ll be required to undertake other activities as may reasonably be expected within the broad scope of the role and in line with your skills and experience.
What you’ll bring
It’s essential you have:
- Formal project management training (Agile, PRINCE2, MSP, APM qualified or equivalent)
- Extensive Project and Programme delivery experience of leading both Waterfall, Agile or similar methodologies.
- Ability to work at pace across several challenging initiatives with competing demands.
- Strong communicator with the ability to successfully influence at all levels of the organisation.
- An effective team player with the ability to foster meaningful relationships cross-functionally at all levels.
- Resilient, self-confident, adaptable, and assertive.
In addition, it’d be hugely beneficial if you have:
- Experience of delivering digital transformation (functionally and technically).
- Experience of working in a data and insight driven function/organisation – helping to influence and shape outcomes based on fact, trends and statistics.
