Position Title: Content and Programming Assistant

Role Overview
The Content and Programming Assistant at Chinatown Storytelling Centre will be supporting the research and development of content and execution of programs. The Content and Programming Assistant will support researching, recording, and sharing the stories of the Chinese Canadian journey and the impact of this community on Canadian history.
Background
The Vancouver Chinatown Foundation opened the Chinatown Storytelling Centre in November 2021, the first permanent space of its kind in Canada that celebrates stories of the Chinese Canadian experience told through the lens of Vancouver’s Chinatown. The CSC offers programming, exhibits, and interactive kiosks dedicated to sharing the stories about the past, present, future and living heritage of Vancouver’s Chinatown.
Responsibilities
- Assisting with interviewing and collecting oral histories of Chinese Canadians and their connections to Chinatown
- Assisting in writing short articles and producing documentaries related to Chinese Canadian history
- Assisting with producing content for the interactive kiosks in the gallery
- Assisting with programming for the CSC including reaching out to our target audience, sourcing speakers, organizing events etc.
- Assisting with providing tours of the gallery
- Assisting with producing special exhibitions including artefact acquisitions, curation, research etc.
- Assisting with in CSC’s special onsite and off-site events and other projects as required by the CSC team
Qualifications
- Undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Communications, Asian Studies, History, or related discipline is required
- Proficiency with Office suite, Google Suite and database management is required
- Skills of simple video editing would be an asset
- Excellent communications skills (writing, presentations, and public speaking)
- Strong commitment to excellence, ethical behaviour and values
- An ability to foster and build partnership across communities and sectors
- Chinese language skills would be an asset

Working at the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation is about joining a dynamic passionate team focused on creativity and innovation to revitalize Chinatown in the city of Vancouver. This is an in-office position with office hours of 9:00 to 5:00, Monday to Friday. Some flexibility in scheduling to support evening and weekend work may be required and will be discussed in advance.
