The School
Over a period of significant change across the sector, York Business School has developed an in-depth range of programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level, with a focus on preparing students for professional careers. Fundamental to our ethos is developing the individual and working closely with the business community to develop lasting partnerships, and further the impact of our research.
There is a lively research culture in the School, with a commitment to both high quality academic research and wider societal impact. A large proportion of staff are research-active, with research projects under the broad field of sustainability engaging with issues of social justice, sustainable tourism and heritage development, sustainable transformation of the cultural industries, and rural business resilience.
Research into sustainability by York Business School is strongly interdisciplinary with researchers active in the cross university Ecological Justice Research Group and Institute of Social Justice. A portfolio of research collaborations exists with colleagues in HEIs including York, Leeds, and London, with recent projects developed through UKRI grant success. YBS Visitor Economy and Experience Research Group projects also intersect with social justice issues and sustainability transformations. Group members have a national and international reputation, with an extensive publication record. The team consult with a range of organisations in the development of the region’s visitor economy and experience, tourism strategy and strategic planning. Group members have developed high impact work on the sustainable stewardship of York as a tourism destination through policy approaches that ensure spatial, social, political and economic justice.
The appointed Professor of Sustainability and Business would be expected to substantially advance and expand existing research plans and opportunities for this group of energetic researchers.
The Role
York Business School is seeking a Professor in Sustainability and Business to expand our research portfolio and develop research capacity through transformative leadership.
Our ideal candidate will have expertise and a significant reputation in business management and sustainability challenges associated with social justice and climate change.
With a strong track record of developing and sustaining partnerships with relevant research and industry organisations, the successful candidate will work alongside colleagues in the School to support research development, supervise PhD students, and mentor colleagues in the subject area. The successful candidate with have experience with relevant international research networks and the ability to build and nurture networks regionally, nationally and internationally, a track record of securing external research funding and the ability to initiate, lead and carry out major research and development projects is also required.
Key Requirements
Commensurate with a professorship post, the successful candidate will have an outstanding track record of research related to sustainability and business management. The incumbent will be required to supervise PhD students and contribute towards the leadership of research in the School. Successful candidates will demonstrate recent publications and potential for future research at a high academic level within the subject area.
