Situated on the unceded, ancestral and traditional territory of the dxʷdəwʔabš (Duwamish people), the College of Education at The University of Washington, Seattle, seeks an advanced Associate or Full Professor of Early Learning Equity, open to all content areas and disciplines. This is a nine-month, full-time tenured position. The successful candidate will be expected to serve as an inaugural holder of an endowed professorship. The base salary range for this position will be $10,000 - $13,734/per month for an Associate Professor and $13,735 - $18,312/per month for a Full Professor, commensurate with experience and qualifications or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Other compensation associated with this position may include a relocation incentive, a limited commitment of summer salary, and endowment salary or salary supplement.
We are seeking a visionary educator to provide leadership in the scholarship, practice and policy of Early Learning Equity within the College of Education, in Washington state, and across the field of early childhood education. Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to:
- Active research agenda focused on intersectional justice and equity in early learning, especially in relation to race, socioeconomic status, decolonization, language, disability, gender, sexuality, and other minoritized social markers.
- Interdisciplinary approaches to early childhood research with generative frameworks for centering equity in early learning and child development with intergenerational commitments to reframing issues of equity in partnership with families, communities, and elders.
- Experience with serving as a leader on issues of early care and education (e.g., with local communities, on campus, with programs, at the state/national level, etc.).
- Evidence of sustained engagement in community partnerships focused on advancing early learning equity and honoring the localized expertise of the marginalized communities (e.g., partnerships with Indigenous and tribal communities, Black and intersectional communities of color).
- Strong communication and convening skills to cultivate brave and humanizing spaces for examining issues of equity and justice in early learning policy and practice, building partnerships across disciplines and programs in service of advancing early learning equity research, policy, and practice.
Our new colleague will be expected to:
- Serve as an intellectual leader and thought partner on all matters of early learning equity with the Dean and the College Leadership, as well as with the local communities to which the College is accountable (e.g., Tribal nations, local communities of color, school districts, state).
- Identify, build, and deepen synergies among the early learning equity scholarship and practice that exist in the College.
- Advise graduate students in early learning, teach courses on early learning equity for graduate students, contribute substantially to shaping the growing graduate program in early childhood policy, and teach courses in the undergraduate early childhood and family studies and early care and education programs.
- Contribute to the development of innovative strategies, policies, and practices that address systemic inequities in early care and education and promote positive outcomes for all children, regardless of their background or circumstances.
Qualifications
All candidates must have an earned doctorate or foreign equivalent in a relevant field or discipline by the date of appointment, such as, but not limited to, early childhood education, early childhood special education, developmental psychology, family systems, early childhood teacher education; early childhood teaching, learning and curriculum; history of early learning, social foundations of early childhood education.
