Sheridan faculty provide academic leadership to programs and courses within their areas of expertise and contribute to the creation of a learning-centred environment where students can develop to their full potential. They also contribute to College, Faculty, and program excellence by collaborating on a variety of initiatives such as new program development, applied research and alternative delivery strategies.
Within this context of inspiring innovation and excellence, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHASS) is currently seeking a full-time Professor of Diaspora and/or Migration Studies. The School of Humanities and Creativity within FHASS offers forward-looking, distinctive programming in the humanities, creativity studies, and creative writing & publishing. FHASS is seeking a candidate with demonstrated expertise in humanities approaches to studying the movement of people across borders and transnational settlement. The ideal candidate will have an interdisciplinary lens that may be rooted in disciplines such as literature, film and media, history, religion, and/or philosophy. Experience with digital pedagogy is required, and collaborating with diaspora, migrant, or immigrant communities in proximity to Sheridan is a strong asset.

The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:
Master’s Degree in one of the following areas of the Humanities: literature, film and media, history, religion philosophy, or Interdisciplinary Cultural Studies (PhD preferred).
Three to five years of experience teaching and curriculum development at the post-secondary level required.
Demonstrated experience with online curriculum design.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with Diaspora, Migrant, or Immigrant Communities is an asset.
Demonstrated ability to conduct applied research and successful experience with grant application is an asset.
Experience with integrating real-world problems or Problem-Based Interdisciplinary Learning into the classroom is an asset.
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrable ability to effectively facilitate learning with a broad range of students.
Committed to excellence in teaching and learning and to working within a team environment.
What You’ll be Doing
Designing and maintaining program and course curricula to ensure they are current, relevant and reflective of best practices within the elective Breadth and General Education curriculum in the candidate’s area of expertise. Courses may also include others in the Honours Bachelor of Creative Writing & Publishing, Creativity and Innovation, or the Social Sciences as appropriate.
Developing both online, synchronous and asynchronous and face-to-face course materials and delivery strategies, and incorporating appropriate educational technologies into the applied learning process.
In collaboration with the Associate Dean and FHASS administration, building networks with community, public, and private organizations to expand experiential learning and applied research opportunities for students and faculty.
Defining, evaluating and validating applied learning outcomes for courses and programs.
Creating an effective environment for learning which accommodates students’ diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences and individual learning styles.
Designing appropriate strategies and tools for facilitating and assessing student learning that are invitational and reflective of best practices in teaching and learning.
Ensuring that students are aware of course and program learning outcomes, learning strategies and evaluation techniques. Providing individual tutoring and academic counselling, and evaluating student progress/achievement within assigned courses.
