We are looking for a Production Technician to help us scale our next-generation laser processing platform.
Opsydia is transforming security and traceability in the diamond gemstone industry with its precision laser technology. Our first deployed products utilise optical techniques to write internal IDs inside diamonds, supporting traceability initiatives for ethical supply chains.
Our technology also provides a platform for next-generation functional devices in diamond. In the research and development stage it has a number of potential disruptive applications, from quantum devices to chemical and magnetic sensors.
THE ROLE
This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of the Production team for Opsydia’s next-generation laser systems. As Production Technician you will build systems and sub-systems ensuring the correct quality standard is maintained. In this hands-on role you will undertake the assembly, inspection, system set-up and testing of all our customer-delivered production units. You will also support laboratory and development work as for customer and early stage projects; working closely with systems and production engineering.
In particular you will:
- Undertake the inspection, assembly, set-up (including software & optical) and testing of the systems to the required standards.
- Ensure systems are built using controlled work instructions and drawings.
- Ensure faulty components and non-conforming material issues are rejected to Production Engineering.
- Support R+D and Systems laboratory and development work.
The Production Technician role is a production focused, hands-on support role. This is not an exhaustive list and the role is likely to evolve as we do, so you will have the opportunity to contribute to the wider activities of the Company.
ABOUT YOU
To be a suitable candidate for this role you will need to be comfortable working hands-on within a Production environment. You will ensure systems are built to the required standard using controlled documentation and support company wide improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will have experience in a manufacturing environment assembling or commissioning complex systems.
You will be able to demonstrate that you have the following:-
- Minimum of 2 years hands-on experience in a similar role.
- Experienced in Electro-mechanical assembly and testing.
- Excellent electrical and mechanical understanding.
- Skilled in the use of tools, equipment and testing equipment.
- Able to utilise best practice processes, techniques and continuous improvement methods as required and with guidance from the Production team.
- Excellent communication skills and able to work with colleagues and peers.
- Pro-active and self-motivated to identify and prioritise own workload
You may also have:-
- BTEC I/II or HNC/HND or equivalent qualification within engineering discipline.
- Practical experience working with Optical / laser systems.
- Practical experience working with computer networking and configuration.
- Working knowledge MRP/ERP systems.
This is a full-time role. Whilst we are able to offer some flexibility around working hours, the nature of the role will require you to be office based.
As part of the recruitment process a selected candidate will be required to undergo security screening to BS7858.

Salary range: £30,000 - £35,000 pa FTE dependent on experience
