Siemens is creating its first UK based Rail Industry Hub on the outskirts of Goole in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

With an initial contract to assemble nearly 50 trains to service the Piccadilly line on the London Underground we are starting to recruit up to 300 skilled technical and support colleagues at in our Manufacturing Facility.

In the near future follow-on work is expected to bring this number of trains into the hundreds, along with an expansion on the site into maintenance and overhaul activities displaying a long-term commitment to the area and growth in employment and career opportunities.

As Production Logistics Supervisor, you will control and organise the flow of plant logistics, specifically the safe movement of products from components to full train sets around our site depending on their assembly status. You will lead a team who ensure our site keeps moving through the cycle of train production, using heavy equipment including cranes and shunting vehicles to do so. You will plan each movement around site in depth to ensure our production flow is timed to perfection, all the time communicating with various departments inside the plant.

The success of our operations relies on the safe flow of material through the production process, meaning this role is pivotal in ensuring our manufacturing programme runs to schedule.

In this role, you would also be required to travel to Vienna for induction and training purposes for maximum 1 to 2 months.

This is your role. What part will you play?

To be successful in this role you should be able to demonstrate:

  • Proven track record of prioritising safety in operational environments
  • Experience of working within a supply chain environment in a similar supervisory role
  • Understanding of different types of mechanical handling equipment and their uses / limitations when it comes to material transportation
  • Competence in producing and then ensuring a team work to a set schedule
  • Strong communication skills across a variety of methods

It would also be helpful to have experience of the following:

  • Experience of working with heavy machinery, such as cranes or shunting vehicles
  • Experience of setting up material flow strategies for production lines
  • HSE qualification (such as IOSH / NEBOSH)
  • SAP or similar systems experience
