Job Introduction

The team of Production Electricians at BBC Wales work across a variety of television programmes in studios, outside broadcasts and on locations.
Our experienced team of Production Electricians are highly valued and an integral part of the operation, the function of this role is to provide television production lighting services and maintain electrical services underpinned by the relevant electrical qualifications and competence.
You will contribute to the smooth running of a busy operational department as well as maintaining a safe and healthy working environment at all times, escalating any issues or areas of concern.

Main Responsibilities

The Production Electrician will provide technical production lighting services. You will rig, operate and de-rig production lighting and associated equipment, including generators and practical and effects lighting. You will also undertake planning of production-related electrical and lighting equipment, achieving the ambitions of programmes while considering the constraints of the working environment, time, resources and team competence.

Are you the right candidate?

You will have previous technical knowledge and experience within the entertainment industry or similar. You must have the ability to carry out electrical installation work in accordance with the current IET Wiring regulations BS7671 18th Edition and either hold or be working towards this qualification. You will have knowledge of BS7909 code of practice for temporary electrical systems for entertainment. You will have the ability to complete physically demanding tasks, including manual handling and rigging, working at height and driving equipment vehicles with a valid driving license. Ideally you will hold a Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services or similar and the relevant level 3 technical certificate.

You will need to be flexible as the work closely follows production requirements and will include working weekends and some travel. You will be able to work with tight production deadlines and demonstrate high levels of motivation and be keen to learn and develop.
