American International Group, Inc. (AIG) is a leading global insurance organization. Building on 100 years of experience, today AIG member companies provide a wide range of property casualty insurance, life insurance, retirement solutions, and other financial services to customers in more than 80 countries and jurisdictions. These diverse offerings include products and services that help businesses and individuals protect their assets, manage risks and provide for retirement security.
Get to know the business
Come and join an ambitious and growing company that helps people plan for the future. We’re an innovative business who want to stand out from the crowd. At AIG Life UK, we are experts in protection. It’s what we do. We look after over 1.6 million people, specialising in life insurance, income protection, critical illness cover and more. For us, protection products are about more than financial security, it’s about helping people live better lives, supporting them when they need us most.
This is reflected in our culture - we believe that the best things we do in life, we do for others. As we grow, we take tremendous pride in seeing our employees grow with us, and are committed to attracting, nurturing and developing the best talent.
About the role
What you need to know:
You’ll be a key player in the future success of AIG Life by managing the product governance process that supports and delivers against our regulatory responsibilities, ensuring products are performing for all our customers and ensuring we bring innovative new propositions to market that offer fair value.
Protection is our business and this is a high profile role with regular access to senior leaders across the business including the Commercial Director, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Compliance Officer. You will also have a proven ability to build effective relationships at senior levels.
You’ll have a strong knowledge of the regulatory environment and our product portfolio. Through annual product reviews you will make recommendations that ensure our products deliver when our customers need us most.
You’ll need to prioritise effectively in a high-pressure environment.
Key responsibilities:
You will be responsible for AIGLL’s product governance including:
  • Provision of SME guidance and support to the Commercial Team and across the business, on the governance requirements supporting the development of new products or enhancements to existing products.
  • Ownership and delivery of annual product reviews for open and closed products. Responsibility for documentation of actions identified as a result of reviews. Escalation to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) where appropriate.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the legal and regulatory frameworks governing product lifecycle management (Consumer Duty, IDD, TCF, etc.). Ensure the process, templates and documentation for both product development and product review remain appropriate and relevant.
  • Ownership of any requests concerning IDD to advisers and distributor firms when they arise.
  • Ensure the Product Development Framework (PAP&POG) are aligned to Group Policies. The frameworks should be reviewed annually and updated in line with any regulatory change impacting our products and distribution.
  • When necessary, the provision of training to the wider business and functional areas on the completion of the end to end review process.
  • Main point of contact and responsibility for internal audit processes or actions in relation to product governance.
  • Support proposition managers in designing, delivering and maintaining the portfolio of protection propositions in order to optimise AIGLL’s positioning in the market in support of short / medium term financial targets.
  • Provide technical sign off and review of marketing materials, product literature, policy documentation and both external and internal communications.
  • The role of secretariat for the Product Development Committee (PDC) directly supporting the Commercial Director.
What we’re looking for:
A working knowledge of the regulatory environment in which we AIGLL operates.
Strong organisational and planning skills including taking responsibility for managing your workloads and meeting deadlines. An analytical, problem-solver who is able to quickly and accurately identify key issues.
Strong investigative and problem solving skills, and use of own initiative to follow through review findings and remedial actions.
Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, combined with a logical approach and high attention to detail. Ability to convey information in a clear, structured and understandable manner.
A team player able to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team across compliance, underwriting, claims and operations as well as an ability to confidently challenge and influence internal stakeholders at all levels. You’ll champion a culture of proactively managing risk, continuous improvement, action and accountability.
Inquisitive and action orientated, you will have a passion for the customer. Consultative, approachable and persistent, you’ll be good at probing facts and challenging assumptions.
You will need a ‘can do’ approach having both the enthusiasm and ability to work under your own initiative. Flexibility in the approach to work, adapting to changing demands and conditions. Remaining calm and focused when working under pressure.
Why work for us
We are an in-house team that enjoys challenging the conventional market thinking when it comes to product and propositional development. The nature of the role implicitly involves engagement with many colleagues across all areas of the business. This includes the senior leadership of the organisation - who are very accessible.
The Proposition Team sits under the remit of the Commercial Director and enjoys a wide breadth of technical knowledge and certainly punches above its weight. This is an excellent opportunity to operate in a role that will influence and shape the direction of the organisation over both the short and longer term horizons.
Benefits:
We also believe in fostering our employees’ development and offer a range of learning opportunities for employees to hone their professional skills to position themselves for the next steps of their careers. AIG also has a devoted learner program for eligible employees to enhance their education, skills, and knowledge in areas that relate to their current position or future positions to which they may transfer or progress.
Flexibility is a highly valued part of our culture. Be that the ability to work part time, shifts, term-time only or be based at home, flexibility helps ensure all our people can have a rewarding career.
We firmly believe that the more support we provide to keep you happy and healthy, the better environment we all work in. As a result, we offer a range of benefits and support that help you create long-term wellbeing habits, including our industry leading Smart Health product.
In addition to a competitive salary, and our generous benefits package, there are lots of great reasons to join us. Take a look on our career pages for more details about our flexibility, commitment to health and wellbeing, and how you can grow with the company
