Reporting to the Senior Procurement Manager, your role will be to develop and implement complex sourcing plans and activity (tenders, negotiations and in-contract benefits delivery) across a designated set of contracts and sub-categories in an efficient and timely way.


You’ll support the Senior Procurement Manager in the account management of internal customers, senior stakeholders in the business areas serviced by the Fleet category; aiding understanding of their business drivers and needs in the context of the company strategy, recommending how they can be most effectively met. Therefore, you need to have strong expertise and/or knowledge of the fleet procurement category.

About the role
You’ll contribute to the development and implementation of a procurement Category Strategy for fleet related goods and services in order to meet internal customers’ needs, deliver first class value for the business and protect it from risk. In collaboration with our internal business customers, you will use your professional expertise to source new suppliers, negotiate contracts and deliver cost reductions whilst identifying and mitigating compliance and commercial risks.

You’ll maintain accurate electronic records for designated contracts and projects, providing other contract and project data and insights, in order to drive value or mitigate business risk whilst applying technical negotiation expertise in the development and implementation of effective negotiation strategies and be a commercial and contractual escalation point. You’ll have ample opportunity to use your expertise in building effective relationships with key internal customers, senior key stakeholders and supplier.

You’ll identify and involve them early and ensure understanding of their business needs and expectations. Your aim will be to be viewed by the business as ‘a procurement professional – a trusted adviser’. You’ll ‘own’ the relationship with suppliers. Furthermore, you’ll take ownership of your own development, seeking out opportunities and supporting others with their development.

This is a Chesterfield based role. Flexible working, however, you must be able to work in Chesterfield on a weekly basis as required, typically 1-2 days a week as required.

About you
You will need to be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience on your CV.
  • Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (MCIPS) Qualified (or studying towards)
  • Proven experience in procurement roles within the Fleet Category (essential)
  • Track record of value delivery through the application of strategic sourcing methodology
  • Demonstrable understanding of category strategy development and implementation
  • Demonstrable experience of managing and developing a team (where line management responsibilities are assigned)
  • Track record of developing, building buy-in to and implementing compelling sourcing strategies
  • Proven ability to apply professional expertise to develop and implement innovative procurement solutions
  • Experience of managing multiple projects/project strands at once and working at pace to challenging deadlines
  • Skilled in program & change management and can demonstrate application
  • Effective problem solver with demonstrable experience in formal and informal contractual and commercial issue resolution
  • Is a proven and effective negotiator and has been trained in negotiation principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; able to lead in cross-functional teams and confidently operate at senior levels with internal business customers and suppliers.
