Job summary
Source Data Receipt (SDR) sits within the Impact Analysis Group and is, as a team, responsible for the receipt, cataloguing and distribution of data within the Source Data Receipt and Assessment (SDRA) GIS database for onward assessment and production activities.
The purpose of the role is to:
- Process and verify hydrographic data within the SDR team using the SDRA system.
- Ensure that the workflow of hydrographic data through Ingest section meets all Quality and Performance Indicators (PIs) and the timeliness targets as set by KPM2.
The team work in a hybrid way, balancing personal and business needs. The successful candidate will ideally need to be able to attend the office in Taunton for the first 2 weeks for initial training.
Job description
At any time the job holder is required to be competent in at least 75% of the following. The shape of the job will vary according to the allocation of responsibilities within the whole team.
- Process, verify and distribute graphical source documents (e.g. charts, Notices to Mariners Blocks, photoplots) accurately in SDRA within the prescribed timescales.
- Process, verify and distribute textual documents (e.g. correspondence, Notices to Mariners, H Notes, books, forms and reports) accurately in SDRA within the prescribed timescales.
- Develop a good understanding of the likely use of data received in order to provide catalogued data that is fit for purpose.
- Accurately link related incoming source data to the correct documents in the Source Data Document (SDD) layer or the Product layer.
- Ensure ENCs are ordered, loaded and processed on a weekly basis and that any cell failure issues are resolved if possible.
- Maintain the BA product layer within SDRA by running the GB NM Script daily.
- Process and verify GB New Editions and New Charts within prescribed timescales.
- Manipulate document formats as required.
- Assist with the training of A1s and B3s new to the Section across the range of data types.
- Act as a Mentor for A1 staff in SDR Section.
Translations Management activities:
- The downloading of FGNM Bulletins from various websites & associated data manipulation as required.
- Book-marking items for translation IAW process documentation (items vary between countries).
- Managing ad-hoc requests to meet customer requirements.
- Liaising with the translation company including requesting quotes for work, resolving technical issues, negotiating changes to deadlines.
- Manage the provision of translation services (via e-mail and ftp), ensuring that translations are received within prescribed timescales.
- Merging translations back into the original document and registering in SDRA.
- Day to day management of the translations budget.
- Resolve queries with the commercial contractor and ensure the terms of the contract are being adhered to.
- Maintaining the SDR Translation spreadsheet and associated folders.
- Reconciling the end of month invoice prior to payment.
- Uploading the weekly translations to the NGA ftp site.

An understanding or experience of Geospatial Information Systems would also be beneficial.

Process:
- Single Stage Interview via TEAMS. You will be contacted to book a suitable slot if you are shortlisted (see our Candidate Pack for further information)
- Interview will be with a panel of no more than 3 people and will last approximately 45 minutes - and may include a 30 minute test.
