Main Purpose of Job:
Working as a member of the BDR Operations Department and as a member of a shift team. The Shift Operator is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient and environmentally compliant operation. Monitoring of plant equipment and conditions and responding accordingly to any trends or faults. They achieve this by:
- Controlling the receipt, handling, storage and delivery of feedstock products.
- Supporting the Shift Team Leader and Senior Operator, in the safe and effective operation of the BDR.
- Lab analysis work involving tests of on-site materials.
- Operation of support equipment and facilities associated with the BDR facility, effluent treatment and utilities.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Understanding of plant priorities and operational needs.
- Prioritise the allocation of tasks ensure maximum plant utilisation and operation of the site.
- Ensure all equipment is kept in good condition and areas kept clean and tidy. Ensure departmental housekeeping is of a high standard.
- Ensure any tools, PPE or other equipment is stored correctly after use.
- Carry out Preventative Maintenance on plant equipment as required in a timely manner.
As part of a team and under the leadership of the shift team leader or senior operator, start, shut down, operate, adjust and clean equipment.
- In all cases work closely with Senior Operators/Team Leaders to report on progress and highlight potential issues.
- Ensure all work undertaken is done so in accordance with the company policies and in a safe manner.
- Monitoring computerised plant controls and responding accordingly to faults.
- Lab Analysis as required to ensure effective process control and measurement.
- Loading and unloading of material into the tank farm as required.
- Contribute to the decision making process regarding level of spares / equipment.
- Liaise with the operational teams in BDR to ensure safe and smooth operation of the overall site.
- Carry out any other reasonable tasks as required by Management.

Ensure a thorough knowledge of your Health & Safety responsibilities.
- Always wear Personal Protective Equipment as required. Take responsibility for your own PPE ensuring appropriate storage and care.
- Always strive to work in a manner safe to yourself and others and report any hazards immediately.
- Ensure all staff and visitors operate in compliance with Safety regulations
- Responsibility for the safety of team members.
- Actively participate in addressing Safety, Health and Environmental issues affecting the production areas, ensuring the relevant S, H&E checks are carried out.
- Full knowledge of the Plant Emergency Procedures and associated responses are required

Qualifications/ Knowledge & Experience
Qualifications
- An HND qualification (or equivalent) in an engineering or science discipline is desirable
- H&S qualification such as IOSH/NEBOSH is desirable
Specific Knowledge, Experience & Skills
- Previous experience working in BDR process plant is preferable.
- Knowledge of shift working/operation would be desirable.
- Knowledge and understanding of current legislation and compliance, i.e. IPCC, EA, HSE would be useful
