Job purpose:
- Provide and maintain controls and advanced applications (abnormal situation management, optimisation, etc.) to meet business unit HSE/reliability and commercial targets.
- To act as owner for software configuration of the DCS / SCADA systems and supporting applications
- Maintains control schemes which have audited benefits typically in the region of €6M pa.
- Designs and implements automation solutions which often have more than one potential solution. Uses own judgment and experience to select the solution.
- Works closely with the DCS systems / OT Cyber engineers within the team to provide an integrated approach to the management of the DCS / SCADA / applications. This may include out of hours / rostered support.
- Works with process engineers and operators to find control solutions to ill-defined business problems. Solutions are often one-off designs as opposed to off the shelf design. Benefit to business varies but could easily be €10M on an annualised basis.
Role responsibilities:
- Monitor and maintain existing control/automation applications so that they continue to deliver safe, reliable and optimal plant operation for Petroineos business.
- Develop and improve existing control/automation applications so that they continue to meet the requirements of Petroineos.
- Identify, design and implement new control/automation applications to improve HSE, reliability and optimal plant operation to meet the reliability and growth targets of the site businesses.
- Supply control engineering support across the whole project lifecycle, to the Study teams, Projects and TAR teams to allow them to deliver effective solutions to meet the requirements of the site businesses.
- Maintain control/automation application software to ensure maximum availability to deliver benefits to the Grangemouth site.
- Prepare and present control/automation application training to control room operators and other personnel so that they can operate their plants to meet business targets.
- Monitor and evaluate developments in the field of control/automation from our technology providers, academia and Engineering Institutions to keep the site businesses informed of trends in manufacturing technology.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
- Chartered Chemical and/or Control Engineer, with at least 5 years industrial experience.(Preferred)
- Working expertise of at least one site DCS. (Honeywell TDC3000/TPS/Experion preferable, other DCS will be considered)
- A good understanding of Refining and/or other continuous petrochemical/power-steam generation processes.
- Understanding of process dynamics and control engineering principles;
- Experience in the design and commissioning of control applications;
- Knowledge and understanding of alarm systems and user interface standards
- Working knowledge of windows operating systems, networks, and software administration.
- Good interpersonal skills to communicate with Shift Operators, Shift Leaders, Process Engineers, Production planning, management and third parties
- Demonstrates ability to identify business improvement possibilities.
- Determine appropriate solutions to complex technical problems;
Desirable Skills:
- Experience in cyber securing applications and responsibilities in a modern OT environment.
- Experienced in the design and commissioning of multivariable control applications e.g. DMC+/ RMPCT
- Understanding of SIS technology & legal requirements/standards.
- Understanding and experience in configuring real-time information systems. e.g. PI / PHD / IP21
- Economic evaluation of projects and technologies.
