Overview of the role:
Reporting to the Engineering Manager and based at JCB Transmissions in Wrexham, North Wales, this is a role for a Principal Engineer supporting both axle and transmission design. The position is for an Engineer with experience of designing and developing driveline components including casings, gears, shafts, bearings as well as brake, clutch, suspension and steering systems. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of product design on a range of exciting and new off-highway vehicles. The candidate will join a highly focussed team that provides driveline solutions to the entire JCB Group worldwide as well as a number of OEM customers.
Your Responsibilities as a Principal Engineer:
- Driveline component and system design in a multi-project environment practising simultaneous engineering including design for manufacture, assembly and service
- Support of project planning through the New Product Introduction Process
- Liaison with cross-functional groups in support of project delivery (Purchasing, Manufacturing, Quality, etc.)
- Supporting current product maintenance and VA/VE delivery
- Presentation of design and performance predictions through a gated project review process
- Creation of formal design documentation including FMEA, PFEP, DVPSOR, etc.
- Supporting the Technical Review process for JCB and competitor driveline products.
- Liaising with internal and external customers and with JCB Group engineering functions.
About you:
You will ideally have:-
- Driveline component and system design experience.
- New product design and development experience (from initial concept to product launch), writing, developing and validating engineering specifications.
- Substantial professional experience of using Altair FEA tools and Siemens’ NX CAD (or similar).
- Off Highway or heavy-duty powertrain experience preferred but related industry experience will be considered
- Ability to demonstrate a sound grasp of engineering principles.
- Self-starting and ability to make things happen & work to deadlines.
