Job description

Job Introduction

This role has a starting salary range of £46,634 to £52,625 based on a 36-hour working week.

We are currently looking for motivated people to join our fantastic, forward-thinking team. We are pleased to offer a Principal Auditor role within Orbis Internal Audit based at Surrey County Council.

In addition to the salary, we offer excellent work/life balance and each authority offers a number of other benefits, including generous leave allocations and pension schemes, flexible working, and access to staff benefits. Further details can be found following the link below.

We would love you to come and join our team, a team that was previously shortlisted for the Best Innovation in Training & Development category at the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors Audit and Risk Awards, and which underwent an External Quality Assessment by the Chartered Institute Of Internal Auditors in 2023 that gave the highest level of conformance available against professional standards.

Who are Orbis Internal Audit?

Orbis Internal Audit is a unique concept, providing Internal Audit and Counter Fraud services across Brighton and Hove City Council, East Sussex County Council and Surrey County Council. We are unique in that the entire team delivers work not only to their own Council but also to other partners, clients and customers, maximising the impact, efficiency and effectiveness of our service and resources. This creates great opportunities for everyone within the service to learn and understand how different organisations work.

Our service is highly respected across our customers and clients, and our focus on agreeing robust actions with our clients further sets us aside from other internal audit providers.

We have a strong reputation for investing in the development of our staff. During the pandemic response, we completely revised our induction process to support new starters. We also invest heavily in developing our own staff and working practices to ensure the service we provide to our clients continues to be of a high quality. We have a strong history of developing auditors recruited from both inside and outside of the profession, offering support through buddying, mentoring & coaching, on the job training and access to a wide variety of professional and personal development opportunities.

At the time of this advert, everyone within our service is working in a hybrid manner between our office base at Woodhatch Place (Reigate) and at home. Visits to client sites and other locations within the Orbis Partnership will be required at times.

What skills and qualifications do I need?

Ideally you will already have or are working towards relevant professional qualifications. However, consideration will be given to those that have considerable audit experience and are interested in further professional development. Particularly important is the requirement to be able to build and maintain excellent customer relationships.

You will be able to work both on your own initiative as well as collaboratively. The ability to manage conflicting work priorities and manage assignments to the expected quality and to specified timeframes and budgets is crucial.

We have put together a key skills document that sets out the type of skills necessary to be successful in this role.

At Surrey, our values and behaviours are just as important as our skills and abilities. They shape who we are as an organisation. Find out more about the values we follow.

For more information please find the full job description below and refer to this before submitting your application. We also invite you to read our Life at Surrey handbook to see insights of the culture at Surrey and how as a valued employee, you can help shape our Council.
