Role: Practice Accountant
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000
Location: Southampton (hybrid available)
As a Practice Accountant you will utilise hands-on accounting experience and an in-depth understanding of accounting principles and company practices to perform complex accounting activities and financial analyses. The successful candidate will have responsibility for managing a portfolio of assigned clients.
Furthermore, you will be responsible for training, coaching, and supporting junior members of the team.
Responsibilities
- Conducts monthly reviews of management accounts.
- Oversees daily activities of bookkeepers.
- Meets with managers during new project creation to prepare budgets, assess project finances, and improve existing financial processes.
- Liaises with existing clients to resolve queries and assist with accounting matters.
- Client Management by taking ownership of a diverse portfolio of clients.
- Prepares statutory accounts, corporation tax computations and business tax returns and files with Companies House and HMRC.
- Preparation of personal tax returns.
- Ensuring that both internal and external deadlines are met.
- Personal and corporate tax compliance.
- Bookkeeping, VAT and management accounting.
- Tax planning and business advisory services.
- Ad hoc special assignment work/projects as assigned by Department manager.
- Coaching, supporting and training junior members of the team.
- Build and maintain strong, long-lasting client relationships.
- Ensure the timely and successful delivery of our solutions according to customer needs and objectives.
Essential skills, knowledge and experience
- ACCA / ACA / AAT Level 4 Qualified or qualified by experience.
- Three years experience of working in accountancy practice.
- Knowledge of General Accounting Principles and practices.
- Strong understanding of double-entry principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Intermediate level such as pivot tables and v look ups), Word, and PowerPoint.
Desirable skills, knowledge and experience
- Solid understanding of the relationship of internal controls and business processes with financial statements and financial statement assertions.
- Experience working as a line manager / supervisor.
- Good working knowledge of general ledger, fixed assets and accounts payable systems.
- Experienced at writing and implementing processes and procedures.
- Working knowledge of Xero, IRIS and A2X.
