About the role:
Bloomsbury are looking for an enthusiastic publishing apprentice with a keen interest in starting a career in the publishing industry to join their children’s Marketing & Publicity teams. This is an exciting opportunity to get your first taste of the Publishing Industry and a chance to learn about how an independent publishing house operates.
The Children’s Marketing & Publicity Department is a fast-paced, exciting environment, split into two main internal departments – Trade (picture books, non-fiction, fiction up to YA and Harry Potter) and Education. You will be working across both departments and should demonstrate enthusiasm, have good initiative, and love creating conversations about brilliant books.

Main Responsibilities:
- General admin tasks include diary management, setting and minuting meeting agendas, maintaining databases, booking taxis and couriers, and ordering books and point-of-sale material.
- Completing review mailings for press and social media influencers and distributing marketing materials
- Contributing creative campaign ideas to team brainstorms and planning sessions
- Creating press releases, social media calendars, and other trade-facing materials
- Research tasks including media and social media contacts lists
- Designing marketing assets including Amazon A+ pages, social media posts, and printed point-of-sale material
- Attending and assisting with events and book launches e.g. librarian conferences, YALC, and festivals
- Curating and scheduling social media content under the guidance of our Digital Marketing Manager
Skills:
- A clear passion for books and reading
- An interest in children’s books and encouraging young people to read
- Excellent organisational, timekeeping, and multi-tasking skills to deliver tasks within the deadline
- Great attention to detail
- Strong and confident verbal and written communication skills
- Good team player and keenness to collaborate
- Ability to use initiative and work independently
- MS Office proficiency is necessary
- A keen interest in digital marketing and social media trends
Entry Requirements:
- You’ll need to attend an online interview with our Talent Team and pass initial assessments in maths and English once you have completed your registration.
- You will need to be within a commutable distance to the office location listed.
About the apprenticeship programme:
As a Publishing Assistant Apprentice, you’ll gain exposure to all key parts of the publishing process starting from the initial conception of a book, all the way through to production, sales, marketing, and publicity processes.
Throughout your apprenticeship, you'll be invited to monthly 3-hour live sessions hosted online in addition to working on your course content via our online learning platform.
To meet the off-the-job requirements for your apprenticeship, you'll also spend a minimum of 6 hours a week within the workplace developing your publishing knowledge, skills, and behaviours listed within your bespoke LDN Training Plan.
