Powertrain Development Engineer (Calibration)

Position Overview
A number of exciting opportunities have arisen within the powertrain calibration team as the company accelerates its clean and energy-efficient propulsion systems. We serve an international customer base with state-of-the-art technologies and you will form part of a team who are working on an industry-first hybrid fuel system as well as future fuelling system.
Reporting to the project team leader you will be responsible for the delivery of key project objectives to bring systems to market on time and to cost and quality requirements. You will work closely with cross-functional teams in software and hardware development, as well as with project and functional management. As the team are striving towards a machine learning future, there will also be an opportunity to get involved in development should you be able to demonstrate experience in this field.
Previous fuel injection equipment, system integration and calibration or engine-related calibration experience preferable.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Technical feature development for advanced systems towards meeting performance and international legislative requirements
- Plan, execute and evaluate system performance measurements on bench, engine dynamometer, performance rigs, vehicles and in climate chamber
- Project manage calibration builds towards internal testing and evaluation and customer release
- Define system performance targets
- Support the Team Leader as appropriate in dealing with customers and cross-functional teams
- Represent the calibration function as a key input into System Integration
- Characterise existing and new products
- Compile technical reports and presentations for review with senior stakeholders
- Support the software team in developing control strategies, and developing efficient and effective designs solutions in order to meet system performance requirements
- Support Hazard analysis, FMEA and fault tree analysis
- Develop calibration guidelines for internal and customer use
- Develop rigorous and robust calibration and sign-off procedures
- Provide technical expertise during customer meetings
- On or Offsite customer support as necessary

Experience & Qualifications
Mandatory
- Educated to a minimum of degree level in Engineering, Science, Mathematics or similar
Desirable
- An in-depth appreciation or knowledge of, or a minimum 5 years’ calibration development experience in a powertrain development environment
- Structured quality disciplines such as Six Sigma
- Sound mechanical understanding of fuel injection equipment and fluid dynamics
- Understanding of hydraulic systems
- Experience with calibration processes and tool-chains such as ATI Vision, ETAS Inca, AVL CRETA

NewCo: Combustion-Technology Leader
BorgWarner’s Fuel Systems and Aftermarket business (“NewCo”) is intended to separate from BorgWarner in late 2023
NewCo will be a product leader in fuel systems and aftermarket distribution with balanced and synergistic exposure among Commercial Vehicle (CV), Light Vehicle (LV) and Aftermarket end markets, with embedded relationships with global OEMs and a focus on the global vehicle parc.
