JDW Architects Ltd have an opportunity for a talented and enthusiastic Architect to join our team based in Newport, South Wales. The role is a full-time, permanent position offering a salary of c£35,000 per annum depending on experience.

The company currently operates under a single chartered architect with a wide range of experience, assisted by technical and design staff, offering full architectural and interior design services.

The range and scale of work undertaken by the practice varies greatly and includes projects within industrial, commercial, health care, public, building rehabilitation and residential sectors.

The ideal candidate should be at least 3 years post qualification (RIBA Part III or equivalent), have good design skills and be technically competent, consistently delivering to a high standard.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

General:

  • Working with the project Lead and all project team members you will be required to input into the development of the design. You must therefore be able to demonstrate strong capabilities across RIBA stages 0-7
  • Ensure that an attractive functional building performs successfully whilst utilising the correct materials and ensuring appropriate regulations are met
  • Contribute to Building Regulation, code requirements and other regulatory applications and procedures.
  • Working collaboratively and autonomously on commissions, through all of the RIBA Stages of Work, including the generation of all associated production information (drawings, sketches, reports, specifications, presentation materials, etc)
  • Liaising and working with the internal team, Clients, Consultants, Statutory Authorities, working within Client budgets, as approved, and undertaking all associated supporting information and correspondence, as required
  • Understand how the design aspects of a construction project influence and relate to performance and functional issues so that practical questions can be addressed at the outset
  • Evaluate and advise on environmental, legal and regulatory issues
  • Lead/contribute to the detailed design process, package development and coordinating design information and assist in the production of detailed specifications for suitable materials or processes to be used

Essential Skills required:

  • At least 3 years’ experience as an Architect (RIBA Part III or equivalent);
  • Experience working on medium and large-scale projects;
  • Produce drawings and documentation as required using Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD, individually and in collaboration with the technical team;
  • Delegate and manage project delivery, where required;
  • Plan forward, perform to deadlines, and work with the intended solution / outcome in mind;
  • Communicate effectively through verbal, written, drawing and report-based media;
  • Communicate well with the team, our Clients, suppliers, external parties and consultants;
  • Technical knowledge and industry experience, to be able to deliver projects through all of the RIBA Stages of Work;
  • Construction cost awareness and knowledge;
  • Problem solving and negotiating skills;
  • Multi-tasking (handling several projects at the same time);
  • Be able to exercise excellent judgement;
  • Enjoy delivering a professional service;
  • Willingness to travel, when required;
  • RIBA and ARB qualified.
