What is the job about?
This is a fantastic opportunity to join Southeastern as a Level 4 Data Analyst Apprentice. The role is for a minimum of 30 months, which includes 24 months of the apprenticeship itself. At the end of the apprenticeship, there will be the potential for this to become a permanent post.
The role will be a varied and exciting position where you will assist and support the Asset Management team in analysing data around the assets and asset conditions of the 164 Stations across our network as well as lifecycle planning and looking at trends.
You will work closely with both the Junior Asset Manager and Senior Asset Manager, reporting your findings into them, playing a key part in ensuring that we deliver our business objectives and meet our statutory and regulatory requirements.
Where will I work?
This is a hybrid role. When required, you will be located in our modern Head Office based near London Bridge, but you will also be able to work remotely. There will be one day a week that is dedicated to you specifically for your studying and this studying is a mixture of self-learning, online sessions and face to face sessions at a London based College, so you will need to be prepared to travel here as and when needed.
The start and finish times for this role can also be flexible if required and this can be discussed at interview.
Main ResponsibilitiesYou will have a number of accountabilities and responsibilities in this role, that will include but not be limited to:
- Transforming data into information in order to provide insight and support for asset management decision making.
- Applying tools and techniques for data analysis and data visualisation; identifying, collecting, and migrating data to and from a range of systems as well as managing abstract and aggregate data alongside a range of analytical studies on that data to manipulate and link different data sets and then summarise and present this data and conclusions in the most appropriate format for users.
- Be responsible for developing and producing a wide range of reporting outputs, ensuring accuracy throughout the process.
- Be responsible for communicating the outputs of reports in an understandable manner.
- Be responsible for attending bi-weekly facilities team meetings and Asset Management Steering Group meetings (as required) to contribute to the decision-making process on the handling and processing of data.
- Be responsible for handling a large volume of station asset and project data and identifying trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Leading asset trend analysis by providing periodic asset data analysis to Contract Managers (This includes asset information relating to contracts with suppliers and Contractors in areas such as facilities, station machinery and equipment and utilities.
- Be responsible for creating, analysing, and updating Asset Management team dashboards and reports.

Do have a Degree in social sciences or similar? Such as Statistics, Data Analysis, Civil Engineering, Construction or Facilities?
Are you highly motivated with a willingness to learn and an interest in data integration and modelling techniques?
Then this could be the role for you!
Do I need railway experience?
No! We are looking for people with the right attitude with a willingness to learn and with an interest in data analysis and reporting.
Skills, experience and Knowledge:
- You need to be educated to a degree level or hold equivalent experience in Social Sciences, Statistics or a related subject such as Data Analysis, Civil Engineering, Construction or Facilities
- Have a background in data analysis and experience in producing reports and creating graphical representations of data – this does not have to be within a working environment, but can be from within your studies. It is crucial that you demonstrate this within your application.
- You need to be highly proficient in IT packages such as Microsoft (Excel in particular). Experience of using Power BI and other data presentation would be highly advantageous, but if not, you need to have the ability and willingness to learn these quickly.
