Job description

Warwickshire Police Community Support Officers

Full time and part time vacancies available

Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) inspire confidence on the streets of Warwickshire. They strive to make our communities safer and stronger yet perform one of the most demanding roles in the modern police force. PCSOs can't make arrests and they don’t carry handcuffs or a baton. They rely on their ability to understand and communicate with some of the most challenging people in some of the most difficult situations.

No two days are ever the same; working with a diverse group of colleagues; people get to know you, talk to you and share their concerns with you.

This is a rolling recruitment campaign. A member of the recruitment team will be in contact if we require any additional information to support your application.

After we have shortlisted your application you will then invited to complete a Values and Behaviours Assessment, and a Situational Judgment Test. You can do these in any order and at your own convenience over a 7 day period.

Please note that you can only complete these assessments with one police force and once registered with a police force and either not completing the assessment, or being unsuccessful, you will be unable to reapply for 3 months to any police force.

Your next stage will be an invite to interview with our current Police community support officers members and other representatives of the force.

If you are successful at these selection stages, we will then commence pre-employment checks including vetting, medical and employment references.

For any further queries, please contact the recruitment team at [email protected]

The main purpose of the usual role of a PCSO is to work within identified communities to enhance safer neighbourhoods and provide reassurance in order to reduce both crime and the fear of crime.

All post holders are expected to know, understand and act within the ethics and values of the Police Service. These nationally recognised behaviours and values are set out in the Competency and Values Framework (CVF).

The CVF has six competencies that are clustered into three groups:

  • Resolute, compassionate and committed
  • Inclusive, enabling and visionary leadership
  • Intelligent, creative and informed policing

Under each competency are three levels that show what behaviours will look like in practice.

This role requires the post holder to be operating at or working towards Level 1 of the CVF.

The post holder must hold a current, full driving licence.

You should expect to join Warwickshire Police as a Police Community Support Officer in October 2023

Recruitment and selection support for under-represented groups

We want our organisation to be as diverse as the community it serves.

We welcome applicants from all sections of the community and are currently under-represented in Warwickshire Police by females, minority ethnicity and LGBT communities, and individuals with disabilities. If you hold any of these protected characteristics, please contact our Positive Action Officer by emailing [email protected] who will be happy to discuss the role and your suitability for this post, answer any questions you may have, support you with your application and/or provide you with interview guidance.

Why work for Warwickshire Police?

Warwickshire Police has gained a reputation as a pioneering and innovative force, responsible for policing a large diverse, multi-cultural population.
If you are looking for a fresh challenge which offers a genuine opportunity to make a real difference to people’s lives, variety and the chance to broaden your experience, then Warwickshire Police is the force for you.

Equality, diversity and inclusion

Warwickshire Police are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion.
We are working hard to increase diversity and inclusion within the Constabulary, where communities are under-represented, including those from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities, people of all ages, abilities, faiths, religions and gender, LGBT communities and those from other disadvantaged or marginalised backgrounds, who share our values and wish to make a difference to the communities we serve.
All applications will be treated on merit, based on the evidence provided in your application and suitability for the role you have applied for.

Recruitment and Selection Policy

Internal applicants who are at risk of redundancy or in need of redeployment and pass the selection process, will be offered the role over the remaining internal and external applicants.

Police Barred and Advisory lists

Individuals placed on the Police Barred and Advisory lists will not be considered for employment by the police for a minimum of 5 years from the date of listing in the case of gross misconduct, or 3 years from the date of listing in the case of poor performance.

Vetting and safeguarding

Warwickshire Police are committed to safeguarding and operate safer recruitment processes, to ensure a police service that employees are proud to work for because they feel safe, valued and part of a happy and supportive work environment. All employees and volunteers therefore will be subject to background checks including vetting and references.
