The role of the Kitchen Porter involves performing all washing and cleaning of the kitchen production area, as well as basic meal preparation duties required in our kitchen. The kitchen porter's responsibilities can include informing the supervisor when food supplies are low and appropriately storing washed dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment. You should also be able to accurately measure ingredients as per the chef’s instructions, as from time to time you may be needed to assist kitchen production. In the Kitchen Porter job you will often find that your shifts could be longer on certain days due to a high workload.
To be successful as a kitchen porter, you should display excellent communication skills and be able to follow instructions. Ultimately, an exceptional kitchen porter should adhere to food health and safety regulations while carrying out all kitchen duties.
Job Responsibilities & Duties:
A Kitchen Porter reports to all chefs within the kitchen environment. The role is made up of many varying responsibilities including:
- Cleaning and sanitising all meal preparation areas as well as kitchen walls, stoves, sinks, ovens, and grills
- Sweeping and mopping all kitchen areas during shifts and at the end of shifts
- Washing dirty dishes, cutting boards, utensils, and cooking equipment.
- Ensuring that food mixers, cookers, and other cooking equipment are in good working order.
- Receiving and unpacking all deliveries.
- Emptying, re-lining, and washing garbage cans as required.
- Ensuring all equipment is clean and put away correctly
- Ensuring that refrigerators, freezers, and storage areas are clean and well-organised
- Deep cleaning fridges and store rooms to maintain sanitary and kitchen safety standards
- Operating the pass-through dishwasher in the correct manner, and maintaining drainage to ensure reliable operation
- Maintaining inventory levels of chemicals, PPE and other consumables, ensuring all teams have access to materials in the morning
- Ensuring that refrigerators, freezers, and storage areas are clean and well-organised.
- Assisting the Chef with basic food preparation, which includes washing, peeling, and cutting meal ingredients as per the Chef's instructions.
Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
Part-time hours: 16-20 per week
Salary: £6.50-£10.50 per hour
