Job Vacancy – Plant Fitter/Plant Operator

Location: Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire.
We are looking for an experienced Plant Fitter/Plant Operator to join our team, to support us with the delivery of consistently high-quality vegetation management and waterways restoration services.
You will be working for one of the UK's leading vegetation management contractors for highways, waterways, and other commercial clients. DC Ground and Tree Care Ltd employ a large team of experienced tree surgeons, landscapers, ground maintenance operatives, marine operatives and plant operatives working on projects across the whole of the UK.
You will report to our Management Team and be responsible for the repair and maintenance of our plant and machinery to facilitate the smooth running of vegetation contracts across the UK, including but not limited to our fleet of boats and aquatic plant, ground’s maintenance equipment, handheld machinery, and motor vehicles. Additional experience with carrying out general fabrications is preferred. Due to varying workload with maintenance and breakdown demand, you will be required to assist with general plant operative works when there are no outstanding plant fitting tasks to complete. This will involve working as part of our experienced team to undertake plant operations on our vegetation and waterway contracts across the UK. We expect the plant fitter/plant operator ratio of work to be split 50/50.
The role will be based from our yard in Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire. You will be required to work occasional overtime, including weekends and night shifts, and be available for call out services.
You will be required to take on the following tasks:
- Organisation and maintenance of boats and aquatic plant, ground’s maintenance equipment, handheld machinery, and motor vehicles
- General fabrication works
- Plant operations
Experience, Skills and Qualifications
- You must have at least 2 years’ experience working as a plant fitter
- You must be competent with diesel and petrol engines
- You must be competent working with mechanical tasks and hydraulics
- You must hold a UK driving licence
- You will be self-motivated with a pro-active approach and have experience of working under pressure and meeting deadlines
- You must have excellent problem-solving skills
- You must be able to communicate effectively and have good interpersonal skills
- You will be able to work collaboratively as part of a team providing support and mentorship to employees as needed
- You will be required to be adaptable and flexible in approach to workload demands
