Job overview

Band 6 Inpatient Medicine Physiotherapist

There is an exciting opportunity to join the Medical Inpatient Physiotherapy team at the City campus of NUH, working specifically across the Infectious Diseases and Renal services.

This role would be ideal for an existing band 6 looking to consolidate their knowledge and skills when working with patients who have complex, long-term medical conditions or an experienced band 5 with relevant inpatient mileage who may be considering a career in inpatient services.

The successful candidate will be responsible for their own inpatient caseload as well as supporting band 5 therapists and two band 4 support workers. They will work within a senior structure that will provide peer support and training.

This role would be ideal for a highly motivated and creative professional who has an interest in working within inpatient care, renal medicine and infectious diseases. You will have leadership qualities and some insight or experience of service development.

Main duties of the job

The patient-facing aspect of this role is to provide a high standard of physiotherapy input to patients within the renal and ID pathways within NUH.

The successful candidate must be competent in assessing and treating patients with a range of medical conditions, including respiratory needs and be comfortable in providing training and teaching to others.

You will participate in the respiratory out-of-hours rota at City campus, which includes late shifts (until 9pm), on-calls and weekend work. You will also assist with up-skilling other staff so that they may join this rota.

NUH has a strong working relationship with many higher education establishments. The successful candidate is expected to supervise students. Experience with students is preferred and the successful candidate will be supported to attend a course on clinical education if not already qualified.

You will need to be able to communicate with a wide variety of patients, carers and fellow NHS workers.

Working for our organisation

NUH has a range of fantastic opportunities for staff to develop their careers in healthcare. Therapies and Rehabilitation is part of the Clinical Support Division at NUH employing over 700 staff. There is also a team of Practice Development Therapists to support career development. An Early Band 6 Development Programme supports staff new to Band 6 roles, supporting development of leadership, management and reflection skills provided through teaching, portfolio development and peer networking.

We are a large, dynamic team working across 16 medical wards throughout City Campus of NUH so there is always a new challenge and an opportunity to learn. Our team provides a caring and supportive environment in which to learn and develop. We have regular training opportunities and meetings where everyone is encouraged to contribute. We work in a manner than exemplifies the TEAM NUH values.

This post will allow a physiotherapist with a keen interest in inpatient care expand both their clinical skill and leadership of a busy and responsive service, with a focus on patient flow to ensure excellent patient care is promoted.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is a permanent part time band 6 post for 22.5 hours. Working pattern can be negotiated

Core hours are worked Monday to Friday, 8:00 – 16:00 although flexible working will be considered.

Additional duties will include participation in on call and weekend working as well as a late shift (1-9PM). These are approximately 1-2 per month but many increase depending on clinical need.
