Job description
Due to maternity leave, an opportunity has arisen for dedicated neonatal physiotherapy time to work within the Bolton Foundation NHS Trust Neonatal Unit.
We are looking for an experienced, motivated and proactive team player with excellent communication skills to undertake this highly specialist role. The successful applicant will work as a key member of the neonatal MDT team and will be working in an inpatient setting on the neonatal unit.
As an experienced neonatal physiotherapist, you will work alongside neonatal consultants, neonatal nurses and other AHPs to provide highly specialist neurodevelopmental assessment and early intervention through development care to babies within the neonatal unit. You will be a key part of the Family Care Division Physiotherapy Team.
- To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including the management of patients in your care.
- To attend appropriate ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings in order to provide expert advice to the multi-disciplinary team regarding provision of highly specialist neurodevelopmental, musculoskeletal and respiratory support and advice based on clinical evidence.
- To independently undertake comprehensive, highly specialist neurodevelopmental assessment and treatment of infants, including those with complex presentations; encompassing any musculoskeletal or respiratory presentations that fall under scope of practice.
- To advise the neonatal team and support parents on the optimisation of neurodevelopmental outcomes, through positioning, handling and awareness of the neuroprotective environment.
- To work with the neonatal team to promote the establishment of FiCare and developmental care with all babies on the Unit
- To make recommendations to the neonatal team regarding adaptation of positioning to optimise development and aid airway clearance management.

The main responsibilities are to:
- Take a highly specialist lead in providing a high quality, evidence-based physiotherapy service to the neonatal unit requiring an advanced level of knowledge, skills and experience
- Work within a multi-disciplinary team providing highly specialist clinical expertise on the neurodevelopmental management of babies in the neonatal unit
- Develop and implement physiotherapy guidelines and best practice to optimise developmental outcome through early intervention
