News Output Operations provides BBC News with staff for TV, Radio and Digital Studio output across London, Salford and Birmingham. The networks and services supported, covering a variety of news and current affairs programmes, include BBC Radio 4 (News), 5Live, WS English (Radio News), News Podcasts, BBC Arabic, BBC Persian and BBC New Languages as well as the BBC 1 One O clock, Six O clock and Ten O clock TV bulletins, BBC World News, BBC News Channel, BBC London and the operation at Millbank. The services are multi-media in operation and are run by teams working in a live studio environment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Main Responsibilities

You will be responsible to the Output Operations management team (Head of Output Operations, Operations Executive and Operations Managers), for the effective delivery of day-to-day operations, technical production and liaison across Output Operations. Detailed understanding of technical workflows in audio production is crucial. Working alongside the team of Technical Production Managers at NBH, you will be working on operational projects and overseeing technical workflows across BBC News. Some of the role will be operational on shift to maintain skills on live output. The majority of the time of the role will be self-managed Monday – Friday and office based.

You'll work closely with production teams to realise editorial requirements and aspirations across all platforms and assist the Operations Managers in the delivery of the overall operational capabilities of the team, in line with BBC News strategy and specific output's editorial objectives.

You will also deputise for the Operations Manager as required, including dealing with out of hours enquiries.

Are you the right candidate?

The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of technical production and broadcast operations in a live, multimedia news environment, including newsgathering, outside broadcasts, studios and desktop production.

You will have proven managerial or supervisory experience of production, operational or technical production teams as well as leadership skills of people with a mixed range of roles, skills and abilities including appraisal, training and development. Balancing conflicting priorities, your communication skills will be excellent and you will have experience of working closely and effectively with senior editorial colleagues, demonstrating leadership in a news environment.

You will also have the ability to simplify complex problems into their component parts and to then effectively communicate, explore and evaluate them systematically. Ability to identify cause and effect and construct frameworks for problem solving and development are key to the role.
